Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Search

6 min read1,379 words

Long Ming drew in a deep breath and forced down his nausea as he walked up to the decapitated ghoul’s corpse.

This game was strange in some ways. After a monster was killed, it didn’t drop any loot; it only left behind the slain body.

It was completely different from the games he had played before.

Long Ming squatted down and reached out to touch the ghoul’s corpse. The sensation was incredibly real.

If he wasn’t mistaken, the corpse itself was probably the loot.

For a moment, Long Ming felt his mind blur. Was this a real world, or an illusion?

But then Long Ming suddenly noticed that on the ghoul’s deformed claw, there was a gray metal ring on its index finger.

He reached out, removed the gray metal ring, and examined it carefully. The ring’s material was very unusual, cool to the touch, and there were patterns on its surface. It looked rather valuable.

Long Ming scanned it with his wristband.

Unknown Ring

Grade: Blue

Value: ???

After reading the information displayed by the wristband, Long Ming pondered for a few seconds, then used the wristband to scan the ring and store it in the safe box.

Although he didn’t know what the ring was for, it looked like it should be worth quite a bit of money.

Long Ming carefully inspected the decapitated ghoul from head to toe, hoping to find something else, but unfortunately, he didn’t discover anything else of value.

He then turned and continued searching deeper into the warehouse. Soon, he reached the inner area.

At that moment, Long Ming discovered a headless skeleton lying in the corner.

The skeletal corpse held a gun in its hand, and the clothes on its body were tattered and ragged.

Long Ming immediately walked forward, squatted down, and reached out to pick up the gun.

However, the moment he lifted it, the entire gun snapped in two, and there were no bullets in the chamber either.

Long Ming was momentarily helpless. He could only toss aside the broken gun in his hand and turn his gaze to the skeletal corpse.

Only then did he notice that the skeleton seemed to be wearing a pair of old training shoes.

Long Ming reached out and stripped the shoes off. Instantly, a moldy smell mixed with dust and smoke rose into the air.

Ugh—

At that moment, Long Ming almost stopped breathing. But just then, the wristband also popped up the corresponding information.

Worn-out Black Training Shoes.

Durability: 12/100

Long Ming glanced at the wristband’s prompt and threw the shoes away in disgust.

Not only did the shoes stink terribly, their durability was also almost at rock bottom. Although even mosquito meat was still meat, that didn’t mean he had to take every piece of trash.

Long Ming continued searching the skeletal corpse. Soon, he found an ancient metal pocket watch.

He opened the cover and found that the hands of the pocket watch had already stopped moving. He didn’t know if it was broken or not.

Even so, Long Ming still tossed the pocket watch into his backpack, then continued searching the warehouse.

Ten minutes later, Long Ming walked out of the warehouse. Although there were quite a few things inside, most of them weren’t worth much and were extremely heavy. There was no way to carry them out, so he could only give up.

At that moment, Gu Yi and Chen Wei also walked out from the houses beside it, and the three of them regrouped.

“Brother, there doesn’t seem to be anything valuable over here.”

“Then let’s search above!”

After hearing the two of them, Long Ming said to them.

“Okay.”

The two nodded.

The three of them then headed toward the stairs.

Soon, they arrived at the upper level. There were also many steel houses situated here.

Judging from their appearance, although these houses were somewhat smaller than the ones below, they looked more refined.

Long Ming turned his head and surveyed the surrounding buildings. His gaze landed on a structure on higher ground that resembled a gun turret.

His mind immediately stirred. There might be weapons inside that turret. Thinking of this, he said to the two of them,

“I’ll search that turret on the left.”

“Then we’ll search on the right.”

Gu Yi and the other nodded.

“Good. Be careful!”

Long Ming gave a word of caution, then carefully walked toward the turret.

A short while later.

Long Ming successfully arrived at the base of the turret.

The entire base of the gun platform was an iron cylinder, with a rusted iron ladder spiraling around it. At the top was a platform.

Long Ming gripped his axe and carefully climbed upward along the iron ladder.

Clang, clang—

The higher Long Ming climbed, the more his field of vision suddenly opened up. The entire mobile fortress structure and the vast desert came into view.

Gusts of cool wind blew past.

Long Ming looked at the breathtaking night scenery and, for a moment, was somewhat entranced. Even his footsteps unconsciously slowed.

To be honest, this scenery truly refreshed Long Ming’s heart and mind. Unfortunately, he wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it now, so he immediately quickened his pace and climbed upward.

Soon, Long Ming reached the platform. He swept his gaze across the entire platform.

There was an iron hut situated on it.

When Long Ming walked to the door of the iron hut, he found an old-fashioned, rusted iron lock hanging on it.

Without the slightest hesitation, he raised his axe and chopped down at the rusted iron lock.

Clack!

The rusted iron lock was immediately chopped off.

Long Ming extended his left hand and carefully pushed the door open. His gaze swept around once, and only after seeing that there was no danger did he walk inside.

The interior of the hut was extremely cramped. An old cannon was embedded in the wall, and beside it was an iron ammunition box. On the other side of the room was a dust-covered table, as well as an iron bed.

Long Ming was also stunned. He hadn’t expected there to actually be a cannon up here, but something this large couldn’t be taken away at all.

At that moment, his gaze fell on the ammunition box.

Inside lay round cannon shells one after another.

Long Ming looked at these cannon shells with a face full of curiosity. Such old-fashioned weapons were the kind of thing one could only see in the military museum at Shancheng Mountain.

He reached out and tried to lift one, only to find it extremely heavy.

If he put it in his backpack, the road ahead would probably become difficult to walk.

Thinking of this, Long Ming tried scanning it with his wristband. Immediately, a yellow prompt popped up.

“Unable to contain. Requires 2*2 space to contain. Please upgrade the safe box!”

Seeing this, Long Ming roughly understood. A 1*1*1 safe box could only store very small items like jewelry; anything even slightly larger wouldn’t work.

He then gave up on taking the cannon shells and walked toward the table in the corner.

When Long Ming arrived in front of the table, a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

On the table was an old-fashioned single-shot rifle. Beside it was a small box containing five bullets.

Other than that, there was also a dust-covered map on the tabletop.

Long Ming picked up the old single-shot rifle, and the wristband immediately popped up a prompt.

Dukapu K1 Single-Shot Rifle

Durability: 67/100

Loaded Ammunition: 5 rounds.

Long Ming wiped the single-shot rifle with his hand and blew off the dust on it.

He tried pulling the bolt and dry-fired it once to check the condition of the rifle. It would be terrible if it failed him when he needed to use it later.

Although this was his first time using this model of firearm, he had handled guns plenty of times in the past, so he quickly got the hang of it.

In fact, the higher academy Long Ming had graduated from was under semi-military management. All students had to undergo rigorous training. This was also one of the reasons why graduates from that academy were so highly valued.
