Chapter 13: Time to Eat

6 min read1,359 words

Long Ming walked straight into the house ahead. Its front door stood wide open, and beyond the entrance was the living room.

The entire living room was in utter disarray. Tables and chairs lay toppled everywhere, their surfaces covered in a thick layer of dust. At the same time, horrifying claw marks could be seen on the metal walls.

Long Ming looked at those claw marks, and his nerves instantly tightened. What kind of creature could leave traces like these?

He cautiously inspected the first floor. Finding nothing of value, he went up to the second floor and soon arrived at the door of the master bedroom.

Long Ming pressed himself against the doorway and peered inside little by little.

The master bedroom was a complete mess. An iron bedside cabinet had fallen to the floor, the wardrobe doors hung open, and clothes and miscellaneous items were scattered everywhere.

Judging from the distribution of the dust, Long Ming confirmed there was no danger, then walked in and began searching.

He first gently turned the bedside cabinet upright, then pulled open the drawer. Inside was a pile of disorderly tools.

Long Ming swept his gaze over them, picked out a wrench, and stuffed it into his backpack.

After that, he began rummaging through the clothes and miscellaneous items scattered on the floor. Unfortunately, after searching for quite a while, he found nothing of value.

At that moment, Long Ming’s gaze fell on the open wardrobe. He walked over and began searching through it, and in the end, found an iron box in the innermost corner.

A rusty lock was still hanging from the iron box.

Long Ming took out the wrench and smashed it down hard at the lock.

Bang—

After a few blows, the rusty lock was smashed apart.

Long Ming impatiently lifted the lid of the iron box. A gold nugget immediately entered his sight.

Beside the gold nugget lay a rough white metal necklace, with several small red gemstones embedded in it.

Long Ming took them out and scanned them with his bracelet.

Gold Nugget.

Long Ming glanced over the information, then stuffed them into his backpack and continued searching.

A short while later, Long Ming had searched the entire house from top to bottom. Finding nothing else of value, he left the building.

He walked toward another house on the right. As he passed the mouth of the narrow alley between the buildings, he suddenly noticed some black bloodstains on the ground, as if something had been dragged along.

He stopped, turned, and followed the black bloodstains into the alley. In the end, he discovered some scattered fragments in a corner of the alley.

Long Ming held his breath and slowly crouched down, reaching out to touch the fragmented biological tissue.

His brows immediately knitted tightly.

These fragments of biological tissue did not look much like human tissue. Moreover, although they had shriveled up, they still retained a little moisture. One had to know just how dry the air was here.

Therefore, the owner of these fragments had been torn apart not long ago. This place was definitely not safe.

Thinking of this, Long Ming hurriedly left. When he returned to the street, he heard excited shouting.

“Bro, look what we found!”

Long Ming raised his head and looked at Gu Yi and Chen Wei as they ran over.

The two of them held up a double-barreled short gun engraved with golden patterns as if presenting a treasure.

“Not bad.”

Long Ming was startled. He had not expected Gu Yi and Chen Wei to be so lucky as to actually find a firearm. Judging from its appearance, its quality seemed quite good as well.

“Bro, do you like it? If you do, it’s yours.”

Gu Yi very generously handed the short gun to Long Ming.

“No need. I’ll find one myself.”

Long Ming refused outright, then turned and walked toward a building ahead that looked very much like a warehouse.

“Don’t be like that.”

Gu Yi and Chen Wei hurriedly followed after him.

“Why are you following me? Shouldn’t you hurry up and search for more things?”

Long Ming stopped and looked at the two of them.

“True.”

“Also, be careful. There should be monsters here.”

“Ah! Monsters?”

Hearing Long Ming’s words, Gu Yi and Chen Wei immediately revealed uneasy expressions and looked around in panic.

After giving them the warning, Long Ming ignored the two of them and walked straight toward that building.

After entering, he discovered that it really was a warehouse.

The entire warehouse was very spacious. Dim lights hung from the ceiling, steel materials and iron boxes were piled everywhere, and all kinds of tools were scattered across the floor.

Long Ming looked around with some interest. There were hammers, screwdrivers, and the like.

But these things were not of much value to Long Ming. Thus, he merely glanced over them a few times before carefully searching deeper inside.

At that moment, on a steel beam at the top of the warehouse, a pair of scarlet eyes silently lit up, staring fixedly at Long Ming.

Long Ming’s footsteps were very light, doing his best not to make any sound.

Just then, a drop of mucus fell from above and landed on the ground behind Long Ming.

Long Ming’s pupils shrank. He instantly stopped, abruptly turned around, and raised his head to look overhead.

A hideous figure leaped down from the steel beam above, pouncing toward him at extreme speed.

Long Ming instinctively wanted to dodge, but his body simply could not react in time. He was directly tackled to the ground by that figure.

He was immediately thrown into a daze. When he steadied himself and looked over—

An ugly humanoid face with rotting features, scarlet eyes, and sharp teeth entered his sight.

Buzz—

A red prompt popped up on Long Ming’s bracelet interface.

“Ghoul!”

Ah—

Accompanied by a ferocious roar, the ghoul opened its mouth and bit toward Long Ming.

Long Ming’s heart jolted. He hurriedly grabbed the ghoul’s neck with both hands.

The ghoul was like a mad dog, baring its mouth and desperately trying to bite Long Ming.

Long Ming gritted his teeth and held on with all his strength, veins bulging on his forehead. Disgusting mucus sprayed all over his face.

Seeing that it could not bite Long Ming, the ghoul tangled with him and kept rolling back and forth.

Bang—

Long Ming kept crashing into the scattered objects on the floor, his whole body aching terribly. Even so, he did not dare let go. Otherwise, he would undoubtedly die.

At this critical moment, Gu Yi and Chen Wei ran in and shouted loudly.

“Bro, we’re here to save you!”

After separating from him, Long Ming’s warning had kept echoing in their minds, making them increasingly uneasy and afraid. As a result, they had not dared to go far. Just now, upon hearing the sounds of impact, they had rushed over.

“Hurry up and use the gun to kill it!”

Long Ming held on desperately and shouted at Gu Yi and Chen Wei.

Gu Yi immediately raised the double-barreled short gun in his hand and aimed it at the ghoul entangled with Long Ming, but he still did not fire.

Long Ming roared in anger.

“Why haven’t you fired yet!”

“I can’t! The two of you are tangled together. I can’t aim!”

Gu Yi kept shifting the muzzle toward the two figures rolling back and forth, but he simply could not get a clear shot.

Hearing Gu Yi’s words, Long Ming nearly spat out a mouthful of blood, but right now, he had no solution at all.

“Damn it, hurry up and aim! Why can’t I get a shot? Chen Wei, why don’t you do it?”

Gu Yi said anxiously, like an ant on a hot pan.

“No, I can’t aim either.”

Chen Wei hurriedly waved his hands.

At this moment, Long Ming steeled his heart and directly rolled with the ghoul toward the pile of steel materials on the right.
