Chapter 12 Mobile Fortress

“Mobile fortress?”

Long Ming was shocked by the sight as well.

Though, judging from its exterior, the technology of this mobile fortress did not seem particularly advanced, it still gave off an overwhelming sense of impact.

“Holy shit, that’s insane!”

“To think this world actually has something this bizarre.”

Gu Yi and the others discussed excitedly.

Long Ming took a deep breath, calming his surging emotions, then sped toward the moving fortress.

Gu Yi and the others also rushed toward the mobile fortress in great excitement.

At this moment, the sand on the ground began to thin out, replaced by sandy soil and gravel. The ground also started to become firm.

“Haha, it’s the Gobi!”

“We’ve made it to the edge of the desert!”

Chen Wei and the others shouted excitedly when they realized this.

Long Ming was not surprised by this result. After all, for such a massive mobile fortress, moving within the desert would indeed be somewhat difficult. However, he showed no trace of joy.

Seeing that Long Ming’s expression had not changed at all, Gu Yi asked in confusion,

“Brother, aren’t you happy we finally got out of the desert?”

“What’s there to be happy about? The Gobi isn’t much different from the desert. Our situation hasn’t improved much.”

“Ah, then what do we do now?”

“This place is so godforsaken there isn’t even a bird around to shit. What else can we do? Climb up and take a gamble. Otherwise, it’s still a dead end.”

Long Ming stared at the mobile fortress drawing closer and closer, his gaze becoming extremely resolute.

“Makes sense.”

Gu Yi nodded heavily after hearing Long Ming’s words.

Very soon, Long Ming and the others ran to the front of the mobile fortress.

Rumble—

Before long, the enormous mobile fortress moved sideways past them. Although it was not moving very quickly, it still kicked up clouds of dust and gravel.

Long Ming and the others immediately ran alongside the fortress, observing it.

The front of this mobile fortress had a large entryway, but the entire entrance was sealed shut. There was no way to get inside.

At this moment, one player shouted excitedly,

“Look! There’s an access ladder on the side of the front entrance of the mobile fortress!”

When everyone heard this, they all looked over and immediately saw an iron access ladder attached to the thick metal wall. Above the ladder was a protruding platform.

“Brothers, charge up!”

“Go!”

One player after another desperately accelerated and ran forward, leaping up and reaching out to grab the ladder.

Some players with decent skills successfully grabbed hold of it and quickly climbed upward.

But even more players missed the access ladder and fell heavily to the ground. Those with bad luck were directly crushed beneath the treads, letting out miserable screams.

Seeing this, Long Ming did not blindly rush forward. Instead, he continued observing the mobile fortress to see if there were any other access ladders. Under normal circumstances, a mobile fortress like this would not only have one access ladder.

“Brother, why aren’t you going? Someone’s already made it up.”

Seeing that Long Ming had not moved for quite some time, Gu Yi was extremely puzzled.

“Yeah, if we don’t go now, it’ll be too late. They’ll get ahead of us.”

Chen Wei also reminded him.

Long Ming did not respond. He simply observed patiently.

Seeing that Long Ming remained unmoved, Chen Wei said to Gu Yi,

“Gu Yi, why don’t we go first?”

“Let’s wait a little longer.”

Gu Yi hesitated for a moment before replying.

“Fine.”

Since Gu Yi had said so, Chen Wei could only wait patiently.

At this moment, the mobile fortress moved past them, and they immediately saw that there were access ladders at the rear of the mobile fortress as well—one on each side.

Gu Yi immediately said in pleasant surprise,

“Holy shit, there are access ladders at the back too!”

“I’ll go first!”

Chen Wei immediately accelerated forward and jumped. Relying on his height advantage, he easily reached out and grabbed the access ladder.

However, before he could even feel happy, the access ladder snapped instantly because it was rusted through.

Chen Wei fell heavily to the ground. Fortunately, they were at the rear, so he was not crushed by the treads.

Gu Yi hurriedly reached out and helped Chen Wei up.

At this moment, Long Ming’s gaze landed on the access ladder on the other side of the mobile fortress. He then accelerated toward it, leapt fiercely, and grabbed onto the ladder.

“Boss, wait for us!”

Seeing Long Ming get up so cleanly and decisively, Gu Yi and Chen Wei hurriedly shouted, afraid they would be left behind.

In truth, although Long Ming’s body was in extremely poor condition and he looked very frail, ever since he was young, his parents had put him through all kinds of training in order to make his body a little healthier and allow him to live a little longer.

Because of this, his reflexes and physical skills were both very good.

After getting on, Long Ming did not hesitate at all and climbed up along the access ladder.

“Wait for us!”

Seeing this, Gu Yi and Chen Wei also mustered all their strength and rushed forward. One after the other, they leapt ahead, reached out to grab the access ladder, and successfully climbed up.

By this time, Long Ming had already followed the protruding platform and slipped through an open iron door, entering a dim corridor.

A turbid stench of rust, machine oil, and rot mixed together came rushing at him.

Long Ming’s brows immediately furrowed. The air inside made him feel very uncomfortable, but he still suppressed his physical discomfort and carefully observed his surroundings.

The entire corridor was about three meters wide. The walls on both sides were covered in mottled rust, and two iron pipes were fixed to them. If nothing unexpected, they were likely sewage pipes.

In addition, old-fashioned lamps were installed on the ceiling of the passage. Some had already gone out, while the ones still lit gave off a yellowish glow, flickering from time to time.

At this moment, Gu Yi and Chen Wei came chasing in through the iron door, panting.

“We finally caught up.”

Long Ming turned his head and glanced at the two of them, then walked deeper inside.

Seeing Long Ming move forward, Gu Yi and Chen Wei had no time to rest and hurriedly followed.

“Brother, how about we form a team?”

“Not interested.”

Long Ming rejected him expressionlessly.

Long Ming still had very high standards for teammates. Gu Yi and Chen Wei could only be considered slightly stronger than ordinary people. He did not want to have to look after the two of them during exploration.

Gu Yi and Chen Wei were rejected by Long Ming, but they did not get angry. Instead, the way they looked at Long Ming became even more fervent.

With such a cold personality, he was definitely a true expert.

At this moment, Long Ming reached the end, and an upward staircase came into view. He listened quietly for a moment, then carefully climbed upward.

Gu Yi and Chen Wei followed closely behind.

When Long Ming climbed up the stairs, pushed open a sewer cover, and crawled out, his view suddenly opened up. He had arrived on an upper-level street.

One rusted metal building after another appeared before his eyes.

The exteriors of the second floors of these houses were connected by iron bridges. Some houses were also built higher up, accessible by stairways.

“Wow, so many houses. But why is it so quiet?”

“Is there no one here?”

At this moment, Gu Yi and Chen Wei also climbed out, constantly turning their heads to observe their surroundings.

“Not sure.”

Long Ming cautiously walked toward a nearby house that looked relatively large.

Gu Yi and Chen Wei had just been about to follow when Long Ming immediately stopped. He turned his head to look at the two of them and spoke coldly.

“Why are you following me? There are so many houses here to search.”

“Oh, right, right.”

Gu Yi and Chen Wei looked at each other, then awkwardly walked toward the houses beside them.
