Chapter 6 Lights Turning On

6 min read1,340 words

As ghost controllers use supernatural power, the fierce ghosts within them will gradually revive as well, until, in the end, they completely erode the ghost controller’s consciousness and kill them.

Therefore, for all ghost controllers, death is an ending as inevitable as fate.

In order to delay the revival of the fierce ghost within them, some ghost controllers came up with the idea that as long as they controlled another ghost and made the supernatural powers of the two ghosts inside them oppose each other, they could slow the erosion of their own consciousness by the supernatural.

This method was known as balance.

It sounded simple, but actually carrying it out was extremely perilous.

The terror levels of the two ghosts inside one’s body could not differ too greatly. Otherwise, a situation would arise where the more terrifying fierce ghost controlled the less terrifying one.

Not only would that fail to form a balance, it would instead intensify the fierce ghost’s revival.

Lu Ming’s current situation was very special.

He wore the mourning clothes of the Wailing Ghost and held the hand of the Mummified Bride.

Aside from its crying face, the Wailing Ghost’s true body was the mourning clothes, while the Mummified Bride’s true body was the ghost wedding dress.

One side represented the sorrow of funerals; the other, the joy of a wedding.

However, Lu Ming could not make these two supernatural powers form a perfect balance. He was still in an extremely unstable state.

This instability was something Yang Jian and Xu Feng, standing nearby, had not noticed.

In their eyes, Lu Ming, an ordinary person, had actually controlled two fierce ghosts at the same time. It was simply the act of a madman.

Within the Ghost Domain shrouded in red light, Yang Jian watched everything coldly and thought, “This guy really isn’t an ordinary person. I hope I don’t end up facing someone like him in the future.”

At that moment, without the supernatural power of the Mummified Bride beckoning to them, all the ghosts that had been gathered over began moving aimlessly.

They did not immediately go far away. Instead, they slowly approached in the direction of Lu Ming and the other two.

Once certain conditions were met, with so many certain-death rules stacked together at the same time, no one could survive such a supernatural attack.

Yang Jian’s expression darkened somewhat, and he cursed inwardly, “There are still at least two minutes before the bus starts again. Survive these two minutes under the supernatural attacks of so many ghosts… what kind of joke is this?”

Two minutes might normally pass in the blink of an eye.

But in this dangerous situation, it felt incomparably long.

Yang Jian did not know whether his Ghost Domain had become worthless, or whether these ghosts’ terror levels were simply too high.

A single layer of Ghost Domain could not block the attacks of these fierce ghosts at all.

But asking Yang Jian to open a higher-level Ghost Domain made him somewhat resistant. After all, mindlessly stacking Ghost Domains would only make the ghost shadow unable to suppress the ghost eye, thereby causing the ghost eye’s revival.

At this moment, Xu Feng, who was lying on the ground like a corpse, was also somewhat nervous.

Although as long as he maintained his current state, he would not be attacked by ghosts, when the bus started, he still had to get on.

At that time, he would be no different from an ordinary person. That would be the most dangerous moment.

“I’ll have to think of a way to make these two newcomers to the supernatural circle buy me some time. Otherwise, running onto the bus like this is too risky.”

Just as he was thinking this, Xu Feng suddenly discovered in surprise that his body seemed to have been lifted by something, leaving the ground.

He looked back and saw Lu Ming holding the Mummified Bride’s hand with one hand, while his other hand had lifted him up, as casually as if he were picking up some very light object, without the slightest sense of effort.

Xu Feng’s pupils shrank, and his expression changed drastically. “What are you trying to do? Put aside our grudges from before. If we start fighting among ourselves now, we’ll all die here. I advise you not to act recklessly.”

He said a lot, but from Lu Ming’s perspective, Xu Feng’s mouth was merely opening and closing without making any sound, which was inexplicably amusing.

“What are you jabbering about? I can tell at a glance it’s nothing good.”

Lu Ming threw Xu Feng’s corpse out like a sandbag.

From the moment the Mummified Bride held his hand, Lu Ming had felt the vitality in his body dissipating at an extremely rapid speed.

Cold corpse spots began to grow across his pale skin, making him appear stiff and eerie.

He had become a nonhuman existence.

Lu Ming, as a living person, was already dead. What remained now was Lu Ming as a ghost controller.

Although his consciousness had not immediately been eroded by the supernatural because of his point-allocation enhancements, it was inevitably affected as well, becoming cold and violent.

Thud!

A dull sound rang out.

Xu Feng’s corpse was smashed among those fierce ghosts.

That sound triggered the killing patterns of some fierce ghosts, while the remaining few fierce ghosts were directly pinned beneath Xu Feng’s corpse, their supernatural power suppressed for a moment.

“Xu Feng’s corpse really is useful.”

“Although after holding hands, I can also use the Mummified Bride’s supernatural ability to summon ghosts, that method is far too dangerous. It might very well directly shatter the already fragile balance.”

“From the looks of it, my idea was right.”

Pinned atop several ghosts, Xu Feng cursed Lu Ming bitterly in his heart. He had not expected this newcomer to be so petty, still thinking of screwing him over even when death was at hand.

But very soon, Xu Feng could no longer curse.

Suppressing the supernatural power of these fierce ghosts was not without a price.

The supernatural power of the corpses beneath him continuously eroded Xu Feng’s body. In only a short while, half of his corpse had already rotted away. Clearly, he would not survive.

Within the Ghost Domain, Yang Jian’s eyelid twitched.

He had not expected Lu Ming to be this ruthless.

Ruthless to himself, and even more ruthless to others.

However, Yang Jian did not think there was anything wrong with Lu Ming doing this.

If it were him, after being set up by someone and nearly dying, he definitely would not be able to swallow that anger either.

The situation before them seemed to have eased.

With Xu Feng’s corpse buying time in front, Yang Jian later released the Ghost Rope as well, restraining some of the fierce ghosts.

Although Lu Ming and Yang Jian could not be considered absolutely safe, the pressure had indeed lessened greatly. At the very least, holding out for two minutes should not be much of a problem.

However, that was only how things appeared on the surface.

In reality, Lu Ming’s expression was becoming worse and worse.

He had done every step as well as he possibly could, but the greatest variable was right beside him, beyond his control.

The balance between the Mummified Bride and the Wailing Ghost was like a candle flickering in the wind, on the verge of collapse. It seemed that in the very next second, everything would develop in a worsening direction.

“No wonder the Lord God’s Space abandoned this place. If you want to survive here, having brains and methods is definitely not enough. Luck is also extremely important…”

Just as Lu Ming thought he was going to die here, the bus not far away suddenly let out the sound of an old horn.

The headlights split open the darkness, illuminating the road ahead.

That deathly silent darkness and despair vanished.

The stalled bus started up again.

Updates every evening at six, on time.
