Chapter 5 Balance and Control

Unexpectedly, Yang Jian shook his head. “I refuse to work with you.”

“Why? In the adult world, it isn’t about right or wrong, only pros and cons. I’m not being arrogant—you can ask around in the circle. I, Xu Feng, already count among the very top batch of ghost wielders. Yang Jian, you’d better think this through.”

Yang Jian did not answer. Expressionless, he turned around.

Of course he would not cooperate with Xu Feng.

What Xu Feng had said just now—that ghost wielders could not afford to be soft-hearted and had to know how to weigh benefits and losses—was certainly true.

But Yang Jian absolutely did not want a teammate who fought alongside him to be a bastard who enjoyed stabbing others in the back.

For the sake of so-called survival, someone like that might very well plunge a cold blade into you the moment you were not paying attention.

As the few of them were talking, they suddenly realized that the mummified bride who had been waving in front of the bus had vanished.

Lu Ming said, “That’s a good thing. Without a malicious ghost blocking the road, the bus is only stalled like an ordinary vehicle. As long as we last five minutes, the ghost bus will start up again.”

Yang Jian nodded. After experiencing the Starving Ghost incident, he had already pulled far ahead of ordinary ghost wielders.

Holding out for five minutes in this kind of environment was not entirely impossible.

Just then, an inexplicable chill appeared behind everyone, making goose bumps rise all over their bodies.

Within their field of vision were countless raised graves. At the center of those graves stood a grave-weeping ghost dressed in white mourning clothes.

Lu Ming was just about to say something when he suddenly felt an icy touch on his left hand.

Someone had taken hold of his hand.

He shuddered instinctively and turned his face slightly, only to see that the figure beside him was shockingly dressed in a bright red wedding robe.

Only then did Lu Ming realize why the hand he was holding felt somewhat shriveled.

So the reason the mummified bride had disappeared from sight was to quietly come up behind Lu Ming and hold his hand.

The brief calm just now had only been because the mummified bride had found a new target and had stopped controlling the malicious ghosts she had summoned.

“Am I going to die?”

Aside from summoning ghosts, the mummified bride’s supernatural power also included holding hands.

As long as the mummified bride took someone’s hand, that person would become her ghost slave, lose consciousness, and be no different from dead.

From the instant contact was made, Lu Ming had already sensed the bride’s supernatural power beginning to erode his consciousness.

If he had not put all his attribute points into mental strength in the Main God Space, making his consciousness three times stronger than an ordinary person’s, Lu Ming would have died in an instant.

But now...

“No. I still have a chance. I can’t give up like this.”

The mummified bride’s supernatural erosion of Lu Ming’s consciousness had not stopped, but the process had been compressed to an extremely slow pace.

The amount of time Lu Ming could still guarantee he remained conscious was roughly one minute.

Waiting until the ghost bus started again and using it to suppress the erosion of this supernatural power was clearly impossible now.

He could only think of another way.

On this side, Lu Ming’s hand was being held by the mummified bride as he struggled desperately against that supernatural power.

On the other side, the grave-weeping ghost’s voice had already sounded once more.

The ghost eye on Yang Jian’s forehead opened wide and rolled restlessly. He wanted to use the ghost eye’s Ghost Domain again to shut out the sound of mourning.

But he discovered that the intensity of the grave-weeping ghost’s supernatural attack had clearly become even greater this time.

Although the Ghost Domain could isolate most of its influence, some faint cries still entered Yang Jian’s ears.

“No good. The influence of this crying on people will only grow stronger and stronger. Even if I enter the second layer of the Ghost Domain, or even the third layer, I may not be able to block it completely.”

“And the ghosts on the bus are also being drawn over by the commotion here.”

Bathed in the enveloping red light, Yang Jian glanced at Xu Feng, who had been at odds with him just moments ago.

He saw that the man looked as if he were already dead, lying flat on the ground without moving at all.

His corpse was stiff and cold, and several parts of it had completely rotted away, oozing foul corpse fluid and pus.

If not for the fact that Xu Feng’s eyes were still open, constantly turning as he observed the situation around him, Yang Jian would probably have thought he was already dead.

“To forcibly withstand a malicious ghost’s attack by relying on this method... This is no longer something an ordinary ghost wielder can do.”

Xu Feng was currently in a state similar to that of an anomaly.

By turning his own body into a complete malicious ghost, he used that to evade terrifying supernatural attacks.

The grave-weeping ghost’s attack was a troublesome problem for Yang Jian.

But for Lu Ming, it made him feel a wave of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.

Whether it was the mummified bride holding his hand or the grave-weeping ghost’s crying, in essence, both were supernatural attacks that eroded the spirit.

These two ghosts had launched attacks on Lu Ming’s consciousness at the same time.

But because Lu Ming’s mental strength was too powerful, his consciousness had not perished instantly.

Instead, through a twist of fate, the two malicious ghosts had temporarily formed a state resembling balance.

“If it’s only like this, it’s far from enough. Once the grave-weeping ghost’s crying stops, I’ll die at twice the speed.”

“The grave-weeping ghost and the mummified bride...”

“If only I could control the grave-weeping ghost’s crying face.”

Lu Ming thought to himself.

But right now, he definitely could not accomplish that.

Thus, Lu Ming could only settle for the next best thing and aim to obtain another puzzle piece of the grave-weeping ghost: the ghost mourning clothes.

By putting on the mourning clothes, he would use them to resist the mummified bride’s supernatural attack.

After making up his mind, Lu Ming held the mummified bride’s hand and walked step by step toward the white-clothed grave-weeping ghost among the graves.

Although the mummified bride was an S-rank malicious ghost in terms of terror level, she had no consciousness of her own. When Lu Ming held her hand and walked, she followed along.

For ghosts, as long as their killing pattern was not triggered, nothing would happen.

However, most malicious ghosts could not be touched directly, or else one would very likely suffer supernatural erosion.

So Lu Ming rather roughly grabbed the mummified bride’s hand and, using her hand, tore the mourning clothes off the mourning ghost in one motion and draped them over himself.

During this process, Lu Ming briefly borrowed the bride’s supernatural ability to summon ghosts.

In the eyes of others, the wailing came to an abrupt halt, leaving only low sobs, as well as the crisscrossing tears on the grave-weeping ghost’s pale, cold face.

But that wailing still echoed endlessly inside Lu Ming’s mind.

Lu Ming, dressed in white mourning clothes, stood in place holding the hand of the bride in bright red wedding garments.

Although there was a gap between the terror levels of the two ghosts, and Lu Ming was at risk of losing control at any moment, none of that mattered anymore.

To Lu Ming, as long as he could survive these long five minutes until the bus started up again, that would be victory.

Within the Ghost Domain shrouded in red light, Yang Jian watched this scene in astonishment, his expression fluctuating for the first time.

To the side, Xu Feng, lying on the ground like a corpse, cursed inwardly even more. “What is he doing? That lunatic!”

Grabbing one ghost’s hand and tearing off another ghost’s clothes.

Anyone who dared to do such a thing could not be called anything but a lunatic.

What Xu Feng found most unbelievable was that not only had this guy done it, he had also miraculously survived.
