Chapter Three: The Beautiful Man Watching the Show

The man was taken aback. Was she not Mu Yelei’s family? If she wasn’t, then why had no one stopped her from running into the imperial garden alone? Thinking of this, a trace of wariness entered his eyes. Recently, Mu Yelei had already been assassinated several times. Though each time had ended in alarm without danger, he could not afford to act carelessly!

“Of course I know where Mu Yelei is. What do you want with him?” the man said with a smile. The gentler his smile, the more dangerous he was. If such a beautiful woman turned out to be an assassin, it would be far too disappointing.

“Naturally I have business with him. Please tell me where he is, and I’ll go find him myself.” Hua Ling suddenly felt that this man was very dangerous. That smile of his, bright as a spring breeze, made her feel extremely uneasy. She decided to keep her distance from him. Though he was an unparalleled beauty, it would be terrible to lose her own life over it.

Naturally, the man was not satisfied with such a vague answer, but he did not show it. He only continued smiling and said, “It just so happens that I also have business with him. Let’s go together. I’ll lead the way for you.” With that, he walked ahead first, giving Hua Ling no chance to object.

Hua Ling could only follow behind him helplessly. This man was as treacherous as a ghost; in her heart, she could not help but give his ancestors a thorough greeting. “I am Jin Junxi. May I ask the young lady’s esteemed name?”

Hua Ling had to admit that his voice truly was pleasant to hear. She was just that spineless—unable to refuse such a warm, jade-like voice. She answered gloomily, “Hua Ling.”

“Miss Hua,” Jin Junxi said politely.

Hua Ling froze. Miss Hua? The moment he called her that, it immediately reminded her of how the Japanese had called Chinese women “Hua guniang” when they invaded China. How unlucky! She could not help growing a little angry and said sharply, “Don’t call me that. I hate that form of address.”

Jin Junxi had not expected such a perfectly normal form of address to provoke such an intense reaction from her. For a moment, he stood there and said, “Why? I do not think there is anything wrong with addressing you this way.”

What a repressed man. Hua Ling said irritably, “If I say I don’t like it, then I don’t like it. There’s no why.” Was she supposed to explain the whole matter of the Japanese to him? He would probably think she was mad.

Jin Junxi had never seen someone with such intense emotions before. He sighed helplessly. “Then how should I address you?”

“You and I don’t seem to be that close. There’s no need to be overly familiar. Hey, we should get going. If you don’t leave soon, I’ll go look for him by myself.” Hua Ling suddenly felt that although this man was handsome, he really was not to her taste. Why was he so nosy? He had to ask about everything. So annoying.

At this point, Jin Junxi truly became somewhat interested in her. A woman unmoved by his appearance—how interesting. He turned around and continued walking forward. After turning a corner, they happened to pass by Yinlü Pavilion. Hua Ling glanced inside. It was still cold and deserted, and who knew where that little maid had run off to.

Hua Ling followed closely behind Jin Junxi onto the path on the left. After walking forward for a while, they turned another corner and stopped before a dark red door. He said, “We’re here. He is inside.”

“Thanks.” Hua Ling gave a perfunctory word of thanks with no sincerity at all. Just as she was about to push the door open and enter, Jin Junxi’s voice came again. “Aren’t you going to knock? This is very impolite.”

“He doesn’t deserve it.” Hua Ling said it crisply, then shoved the door open hard and strode inside.

Jin Junxi looked at her back and said to himself silently, This appearance doesn’t seem like that of an assassin. In that case, there would be a good show to watch. He wondered how that great block of ice Mu Yelei had offended this thorny beauty. Thinking of this, he quickly followed her inside. Such a lively scene could not be missed!
