Chapter 8

008 Finding People and Farming

3 min read673 words

As she thought and thought, drowsiness crept over her. Before Su Zhirui knew it, she had collapsed onto the stone. Then a certain man’s long arm swept her up, and she obediently rolled into a warm embrace.

It was nearly late morning before she lazily opened her eyes. The moment she lifted her lids, her face went pale with fright. What was going on?

“Don’t move.” Knowing she was awake, Yi Feng immediately warned her.

“Milord, can we not feed the sharks?” Su Zhirui asked, heart pounding as she looked at their surroundings.

“Nothing will happen,” Yi Feng replied, still walking forward with steady steps.

“Let’s go back and have children instead.” Seeing that he refused to compromise, Su Zhirui tried to tempt him with another tactic.

“Nothing will happen.”

“But I’m scared.”

“Nothing will happen.”

“...”

She was not exaggerating at all. All around them was seawater, stretching endlessly as far as the eye could see. There was no shore ahead or behind them, and beneath their feet, there really was only a single piece of wood. It even looked like rotten wood from many years ago, dark and black, as if it might snap at any moment.

“Why does a place like this exist?” Su Zhirui was truly somewhat afraid. She could only close her eyes and refuse to look around.

“This is a shortcut to Ruoshui.” Continuing onward, Yi Feng answered her lightly.

“I’m going to fall.” Heavens, just how long was this thing? There was no end to it at all. Were they supposed to spend New Year’s on this log?

“I won’t let you fall.” Still wearing that cold expression, Yi Feng replied again.

“You won’t let me fall? You’re planning to fall together with me.” Su Zhirui could not help rolling her eyes.

“Milord, why exactly are we traveling all this way to Ruoshui?” Since it had come up, she had to ask, because that place made her far too curious.

“To find someone and farm.” Yi Feng tossed out five words, nearly making Su Zhirui roll off his back. Heavens, just what kind of man had she run into?

“Why go so far just to farm?” Resting her chin in her hand, Su Zhirui was so curious she could not be more curious.

“Only that place is suitable for you to farm,” Yi Feng answered coldly as ever.

“I beg you for the full explanation version.”

“The land is fertile. Seeds grow as soon as they’re planted.”

Meaning, he was mocking her for being someone whose fingers had never touched spring water, someone who knew nothing about farming, and only in Ruoshui would she not starve to death.

“Go ahead and take a few more turns to insult me. It’s fine.” With a muffled snort, Su Zhirui simply closed her eyes and fell fast asleep, drooling as she dreamed sweet dreams. When she woke again, Su Zhirui was startled once more. What was this dark, gloomy cave now? It was incomparably vast, filled everywhere with black, shadowy rocks.

“May I ask, milord, what are those pitch-black things above us that look like butterflies and also like bats?” Looking upward, Su Zhirui could not help rolling her eyes again as she continued asking.

“Hell Butterflies.”

“May I ask, milord, why do you look as if you don’t want to answer?” Struggling to keep her hands from reaching for Yi Feng’s neck, Su Zhirui was already carrying a trace of anger.

“Because this is not something you should ask about.”

“Then what am I supposed to ask about?”

“...” His answer was silence, meaning that now, at this moment, this instant, there was no question she was supposed to ask.

“Damn it...” Crudely spitting out those three words, Su Zhirui thoroughly declared defeat. She had completely reached the point of speechlessness. Her heart felt stifled; originally, she had many questions she wanted to ask, but considering this man’s attitude and the way he responded, her instincts told her—

She might as well let them rot in her stomach.
