005 Alright, Only Steamed Buns

3 min read694 words

“If I tell you to marry me, you marry me. If someone else tells you to marry them, will you marry them too?” Having calmed down somewhat, Su Zhirui asked again. If she didn’t get these questions straightened out, how could she possibly sleep?

“No.” Paying no mind to her anger, Yi Feng still answered with perfect composure.

“Why not?” Su Zhirui’s expression finally eased a little.

“No reason.”

“Why not?” Summoning her patience, Su Zhirui asked once more. “Got it, no reason.” Seeing that he wouldn’t answer, she went ahead and answered for him.

Yi Feng looked at her in silence, as if satisfied with her self-awareness.

“Your grandma.”

“…”

After dawdling for ages, Yi Feng finally finished putting on his robe and headed for the door. Su Zhirui hurriedly dressed and got up, following him out. But she moved too abruptly and nearly flipped over the wooden railing and rolled into the pond. Fortunately, he was behind her and caught her slender waist.

“What a huge lake.” Once she managed to stop herself, Su Zhirui couldn’t help crying out in surprise. Last night had been too dark, and she truly hadn’t noticed that the area in front of her house was this beautiful. The red morning sun reflected on the water, rippling with shimmering light, as lovely as a fairyland. White lotuses could be seen everywhere, immersed in pale mist and exuding an aura of sanctity. The swaying carp and frolicking mandarin ducks added even more vitality to all this beauty.

“I’m never leaving again.” Taking a deep breath, Su Zhirui couldn’t help sighing in admiration.

“You like this place?” The man behind her seemed deep in thought, complexity hidden in his eyes.

“I do. I like it too much.”

“Then we’ll move today.” At those words, someone nearly bit off her own tongue. What did he mean? She liked it, so he wanted to move? What the hell kind of logic was that?

“Are you deliberately going against me?” Following behind him, Su Zhirui asked rather fiercely.

“No.” Without slowing, Yi Feng went straight around the corridor and toward the kitchen.

“Reason?” Only then did Su Zhirui realize that if she was the one asking questions, this man simply couldn’t be bothered with her. She might as well make her own words concise; that way, perhaps what she heard would be more than two words.

“It’s inconvenient to live here.”

Su Zhirui was delighted. Sure enough, she had to go about it in reverse.

And that was indeed the case. If she had to cross mountains and rivers, climb peaks and traverse ridges just to reach the market, she would rather move too. A paradise on earth, after all, could not fill one’s stomach.

After washing up and returning to the room, Su Zhirui froze again. Breakfast was only a few Want Want–sized little steamed buns? Looking at the large plate of white dough balls on the table, she couldn’t help rolling her eyes. Excuse her, but did that damned man think she was too dark? Although she didn’t think she was particularly fair either, eating only steamed buns—wasn’t he afraid of getting kidney stones? Going to the bathroom would be unusually difficult too, right? Or should she first go draw some water from the lake, drink her fill, and then eat?

“I want noodles,” Su Zhirui requested aloud.

“There are only steamed buns.” Yi Feng glanced at her and answered blandly.

“If there are no noodles, rice porridge is fine too.”

“There are only steamed buns.”

“If there are no noodles and no rice porridge, pickles will do.” “Fine, there are only steamed buns.” Su Zhirui, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, once again answered for him herself.

“If you’re not eating, pack them up. We’ll eat on the road.” Seeing that she hadn’t moved for a long while, Yi Feng promptly took out a bundle and packed the entire plate of steamed buns inside.

“Where are we moving to?” Taking a steamed bun from the bundle on his back, Su Zhirui bit into it.

“Ruoshui.” Carrying three large bundles on his back, the man walked ahead and answered.
