Chapter 3

003 Precious Man of Few Words

4 min read843 words

Suddenly feeling that she was a little foolish, Su Zhirui turned around awkwardly to look at the man behind her. She clearly knew nothing about him at all, yet just because of his cold attitude, she had followed him here. She had never once imagined that she would truly marry this man. Was she really going to marry herself off?

Her mind spun for quite a while. Struggling inwardly, she paused for a moment, then suddenly opened the eyes she had shut and stared seriously at the man who had been waiting for her answer all along.

“Name.”

“Yi Feng,” the man replied.

“Age.”

“Twenty-three,” the man answered again.

“Parents.”

“None of your concern.” The man remained perfectly calm.

“Relatives.”

“No need for you to look after them.”

“Let’s get married.” No need to serve parents-in-law, no need to take care of relatives—why wouldn’t she agree to such a good deal? In for a penny, in for a pound. Su Zhirui signed her messy name with great flair. It was so ugly it hardly looked like a name at all, more like little chicks pecking at grains of rice.

Seeing him change his clothes, she casually picked up the double-happiness character he had prepared and pasted it onto the wall. After staring at it for a long time, she still felt something was off and could not figure out what kind of script it was. Behind her, when the man saw it, the corner of his mouth twitched slightly, but he did not say anything.

The double-happiness character was pasted upside down!

The slender red candles gave off a faint glow. Their shadows fell across the wall and the bed, stretched long and somewhat distorted. After they finished bowing to heaven and earth, she still was not nervous in the slightest. Pulling off her bridal veil, she sat down at the table piled with food and wine, her eyes shining with ravenous longing.

Yi Feng’s handsome face remained cold. He seemed to feel nothing improper about her lack of manners and sat down as well. He merely watched this woman, whose eating manners were atrocious to the extreme, drink strong liquor. In a single day, it seemed she had already given him quite a few surprises.

Once she had eaten and drunk her fill, the next matter was naturally sleep. But after looking herself over, Su Zhirui consciously furrowed her brows.

“Um… my lord, where can I bathe?”

“Just open the door,” Yi Feng answered blandly.

“Oh, then… I’m not a fish.” Realizing what he meant, Su Zhirui could not help planting both hands on her waist. He was obviously talking about that pond.

“Go out, turn right, second room.” This time, Yi Feng answered properly.

“Then I…”

“The water comes from the pond. The bucket broke this morning, and the firewood is gone too.” Seeing that she was about to go out, Yi Feng spoke again.

“So what you mean is, I should just jump straight into the pond and wash there, right?” Su Zhirui was somewhat choked with frustration. “Just wait.”

Taking off her red bridal robes, Su Zhirui walked out the door with righteous resolve. The air was faintly cool, and she could only hastily wash herself in the pond beneath the moonlight.

They were fucking too poor. Su Zhirui gritted her teeth.

Returning awkwardly to the room from before, she finally realized that tonight seemed to be their wedding night. Although she had never been particularly shy about such matters—men and women seeking pleasure was perfectly normal—doing it for the first time with a strange man was inevitably a little odd, right? Uh, even stranger was that she seriously suspected whether that man’s expression would be this cold and icy even in bed.

Only after walking into the room did she realize she had completely overthought things. Someone was already lying quietly on the bed, asleep. Climbing onto the bed softly, she quickly burrowed into the quilt. Although it was summer, it was still very cold out here in the wilderness. Most hateful of all, there really were a lot of mosquitoes. She curled up under the quilt, head and all, until the heat became unbearable. Only then did she poke her head out and let out a deep, long breath. Turning over, she discovered that at some point, someone had actually lowered the gauze canopy.

Why the hell hadn’t he told her? Holding her breath, she glared viciously at the back in front of her.

She glared for quite a while, until a tremendous crash sounded from the horizon, and only then did she snap back to herself. The red candles in the room were blown out by the fierce wind. With a flash of lightning, she froze, shrank in on herself, and clung desperately to that back which still did not move in the slightest.

Heaven bear witness, she was not afraid of thunder. It was just that the thunder made this wooden house sway as if it were on the verge of collapse at any moment…
