Chapter 8 Narrow Escape

“Good, good, good!”

He Liansheng laughed from sheer fury, staring at the faceless corpse before him.

He had abandoned his own body outright and fled with a supernatural curse.

After pulling a move like that, the other party was not far from revival himself.

The curse of the Opera Ghost.

Born by borrowing another body.

The Faceless Man walked to He Liansheng’s side. “Do we keep chasing?”

He Liansheng glanced at the Faceless Man. “There’s no way to chase him now. Who knows what medium he used to break out and be born through.”

“That driver?”

The Faceless Man reminded him.

He Liansheng frowned and pondered for a moment. His Ghost Domain opened.

Ten minutes later, He Liansheng and the Faceless Man stood looking at the driver on the ground, dead with his eyes wide open.

“What a ruthless brat. The man more or less helped him escape with his life.”

Looking at the driver’s torn-open belly, the bloody footprints on the ground, and the vanished taxi.

It was obvious that the brat had come out from here.

“Ten minutes. Too late.”

He Liansheng had experienced the speed of that taxi firsthand.

“Make preparations,” He Liansheng sighed.

He Liansheng did not say what they were preparing for, but the Faceless Man knew exactly what he meant.

The wind howled.

A battle-damaged taxi sped down the expressway far over the limit.

“Old bastard, you’re not leaving me any way out, are you? Just you wait.”

Lin Qian stared ahead, his expression dark.

The stench of blood was thick and pungent, but Lin Qian paid it no mind.

The mask on his face had long since disappeared.

“I probably can’t be considered human anymore.”

His current body was entirely constructed from supernatural power.

The Opera Ghost’s killing pattern was extremely strange; it could achieve rebirth by borrowing a body.

But this was not good news.

His malevolent ghost’s revival had been brought forward.

Sensing the condition inside his body, his blood flowed slowly, and his heartbeat was only fifteen beats per minute.

He was no different from the living dead.

Lin Qian estimated that the malevolent ghost would revive in three months at most.

That meant he could live for three more months at most.

The lifespan that had originally been two years had been forcibly cut down to only three months.

Lin Qian let out a cold, derisive laugh.

There was no point in making empty threats now.

He looked ahead. The cold wind blowing in through the broken car could not affect him at all.

As for that dead driver, he could only say he was sorry.

It was not that he was vicious; he simply had no other choice.

If he had not done that, he would never have survived.

From the moment he saw the Faceless Man, he had known what he had to do.

Lin Qian drove the car, but he did not head directly to Dachang City. Instead, he detoured straight toward Dajiang City.

There was no meaning in going to Dachang City now.

Taiping Ancient Town.

“Killed him?”

At the entrance of the ancient town, the old woman raised her head and looked at He Liansheng and the Faceless Man as they returned.

He Liansheng shook his head. “He ran.”

“How is that possible?” The old woman’s first reaction upon hearing the news was disbelief.

He Liansheng and the Faceless Man had actually botched it?

What kind of joke was that?

But soon, after hearing He Liansheng recount the entire chase, the old woman immediately looked toward the old man crouching not far away.

“Old bastard, a death feud has already been forged. You’d better pray that brat never comes back for revenge in the future!”

Because of them, the other party’s parents had died.

Now they had gone to hunt him down as well.

But they had let him escape.

This grudge was huge.

The old man’s expression shifted uncertainly. He had never expected that a single moment of kindness from him would lead to such a situation.

But at that time, that brat had clearly been an ordinary person.

Why, in the blink of an eye, had he become a ghost wielder?

“Enough. Things have already come to this. All we can do is stay on guard.”

“This time, that brat was meant to live.”

He Liansheng sighed. The matter had already happened, and the worst possible outcome had already appeared.

“The Opera Ghost’s ability is far too bizarre. To be honest, we never expected it could be used like that.”

He Liansheng said.

The old woman’s eyes were gloomy as she glared at the old man with hostility, but very quickly, she withdrew her gaze.

Without saying anything else, she turned and entered the ancient town.

The hidden danger had already been planted. Now it would depend on their luck from here on out.

Dajiang City, five in the morning.

An out-of-control taxi forced its way through the toll station, then sped all the way forward before plunging headfirst into an artificial river.

With a bang, river water exploded upward.

But very soon, calm returned.

A few minutes later, a figure crawled out of the water in a sorry state. The figure wore a white mask, and on the mask was a strange eye.

“Cough, cough…”

The figure coughed heavily. The mask on his face slowly sank into his flesh and disappeared.

Cold river water was spat out.

Lin Qian flipped over and lay by the riverbank, looking at the faint white light about to appear at the edge of the sky.

“I really am unlucky to the extreme.”

After resting for a while, Lin Qian sat up and rubbed his icy-cold face.

“The malevolent ghost has less than three months before it revives. I have to find a way to extend my life.”

After being put through this, if he could not find a method to delay the ghost’s revival, he was definitely dead.

He had not gone to Dachang City. The current Dachang City was extremely dangerous, and those undying old things would not know that he had come to Dajiang City.

Although he had controlled the malevolent ghost in Dajiang City, the closer he was to the Opera Ghost, the faster his own ghost would revive.

But the more dangerous a place was, the safer it might be instead.

That Opera Ghost might have already left.

At least for now, he did not sense anything abnormal.

Lin Qian followed the riverbank toward the main road.

He was thinking about one thing.

Should he directly plunder malevolent ghosts to suppress the revival of his own ghost, or should he search for malevolent ghosts that conflicted with his own and plunder them?

In the original work, there was very little description of the Opera Ghost.

The Ghost Opera Stage was in Taiping Ancient Town, the ghosts of the opera troupe were in the Caesar Hotel.

There was also a black-faced dan-role ghost on the Ghost Ship.

The bench was in the Wang family’s old residence in Dadong City, where time was chaotic.

The Ghost Opera had been split apart very thoroughly.

And he did not know what kind of ghost countered the Ghost Opera.

Lin Qian very decisively gave up the second option.

He could only go find a ghost to control and use it to suppress the revival of his own ghost.

Compared to other ghost wielders, Lin Qian was very clear on what he should do when his malevolent ghost was about to revive.

First, find a place to rest and calm the agitation of the malevolent ghost.

Then search for ghosts in Dajiang City.

He had already witnessed how powerful the plundering ability was.

If even a ghost like the Opera Ghost could be plundered, there was no reason some weaker ghosts could not be plundered as well.

……

“President, it has been confirmed that he is a ghost wielder.”

Dajiang City, inside a villa.

Bang~!

The cue ball steadily knocked the eight ball into the corner pocket.

“Oh? He really is a ghost wielder?”

A man with a slightly pale face and an extremely strong scent of cologne set down his cue, asking with some surprise.

Beside the man, a woman in a dark professional hip-hugging skirt, black stockings, and black-rimmed glasses handed several photos to him.

“According to the results of our investigation, this car came from Dayuan City.”

“It had already gone out of control while it was in Dayuan City.”

“Then it stopped on the expressway for less than twenty minutes before starting again and heading straight for Dajiang City.”

“And the car remained out of control. When it passed through Dajiang City’s toll station, it forced its way through at three hundred kilometers per hour.”

“In the end, it drove into the artificial river.”

“But the person driving the car did not die.”

The woman pointed at the photos. “This person is the one who drove that taxi.”

The man looked at the photos. In them was a young man crawling out of the river.

The first photo only captured the young man from behind.

But the second photo captured his entire face.

In the photo, the young man lay by the riverbank, looking at the sky, his face frighteningly pale.

There was not the slightest trace of blood.

“From the photos alone, there’s no way to tell that he’s a ghost wielder.” The man tossed the photos onto the billiard table.

“You can’t tell from the photos, but you can determine it from what he experienced.”

The woman took out a file.

The man took it and began flipping through it.

“Isn’t this the supernatural incident at Tiankai Residential Complex? Why are you giving me this?”

Hearing this, the woman pushed up her black-rimmed glasses, her gaze falling on the photos on the billiard table.

The man was stunned, then his gaze also fell on the photos on the billiard table.

“This person is called Lin Qian. He lives in Tiankai Residential Complex.”

“The supernatural incident at Tiankai Residential Complex appeared at four o’clock this morning, but the surveillance cameras did not capture Lin Qian leaving the complex.”

“Also, I investigated Lin Qian’s recent travel records. He has no itinerary showing that he left Dajiang City.”

“And yet, he came from Dayuan City.”

Hearing this, however, the man shook his head. “That doesn’t prove anything.”

Although the man had already determined that Lin Qian was a ghost wielder.

After all, the other party had driven an out-of-control taxi into the artificial river and survived unharmed. That alone was enough to determine that he was no ordinary person.

But it still had to be truly confirmed.

The woman smiled and took out another photo.

“This is a photo taken by the camera on the building opposite at three o’clock this morning.”

The man took the photo.

In the photo was a person jumping from a building. The image was somewhat blurry, perhaps because of the distance.

But it could still be made out that the person was a young man.

“There is surveillance footage as well.” The woman took out her phone.

The man narrowed his eyes slightly and looked at the phone.

On the phone was a video. The woman tapped it open.

The video began normally, simply filming Tiankai Residential Complex across the way.

But at three o’clock, the glass of a room on the thirty-sixth floor opposite suddenly shattered, and immediately afterward, a young man rushed out.

The young man fell, quickly disappearing from the surveillance footage.

“We enhanced the clarity and restored the video. It can be confirmed that this person is Lin Qian.”

“President, if a person was still in Dajiang City at three o’clock, why did he come back from Dayuan City?”

“That is something an ordinary person cannot do.”

The man watched the video until it ended.

He nodded. “It can be confirmed that he is a ghost wielder.”

“Arrange for someone to make contact. A wild ghost wielder is quite the prized commodity right now.”

“We have already found Lin Qian’s location. The person arranged to make contact is Wu Xun.”

“They have probably already met by now,” the woman said with a smile, her tone even.

Hearing this, the man smiled and reached his hand beneath the woman’s skirt. “You’re making things more and more worry-free for me.”

The woman gave a muffled groan, but she did not resist. Instead, she leaned into him with the motion.

“It is all thanks to the president’s usual guidance.”

The man’s smile deepened. He directly picked up the woman and walked toward the bedroom.
