Chapter 7: Luring the Tiger from the Mountain

7 min read1,705 words

A cold, sinister supernatural force swiftly enveloped the out-of-control taxi.

At that moment, the taxi’s speed dropped in an eerie fashion.

The driver clearly sensed it, and excitement surged in his heart.

“Young man! The car’s slowing down!”

This was undoubtedly good news, but Lin Qian could not feel the slightest bit happy right now.

He stared fixedly at the faceless man behind him, the one gripping the rear seat, and reached out to undo his seat belt.

“Master, how much farther is that place you mentioned?”

“It’s just up ahead. What’s wrong?” The driver did not look at Lin Qian as he asked in confusion.

“I understand.”

Bang. The car door was kicked open.

Lin Qian jumped straight out of the car.

Wrapped in supernatural power, he tumbled more than ten meters along the highway before finally coming to a stop.

The instant he stopped, Lin Qian abruptly raised his head. At some unknown point, a white mask had covered his face, and a pitch-black eye without a pupil had eerily emerged from the mask.

Ignoring the large abrasions and fractures across his body, Lin Qian stood up under the protection of the supernatural force, directly vaulted over the highway barrier, and jumped down into the mountain forest beyond the guardrail.

Inside the car, the driver let out a “holy shit,” his entire mind going blank.

He looked at the speed that had now fallen to two hundred. Jumping out at this speed?

Wasn’t that seeking death?

The driver did not notice the faceless man in the trunk.

The faceless man had not expected Lin Qian to be so decisive either.

By the time he reacted and turned to look back, Lin Qian had already vanished.

“What a decisive kid.”

The faceless man glanced at the driver. After hesitating for a moment, he still decided to use supernatural power to stop the car.

After all, jumping out at this speed would not feel good for him either. He did not have a ghost domain.

Very soon, the out-of-control taxi came to an eerie stop.

Without the slightest hesitation, the driver got out and hid beyond the guardrail.

Having taken a trip through the gates of hell, he was now extremely grateful that he was still alive.

He looked at his taxi. Both front doors had vanished without a trace.

The trunk had disappeared to who knew where as well.

There were also cracks across the front windshield.

The two rear doors showed signs of falling off too.

The driver looked it over and rubbed his chin. “The brakes aren’t too good. Next time, I’ll have to get better ones. The overall frame needs work too. Too brittle.”

“There’s nothing wrong with the engine. The tires are racing off-road tires…”

“It actually hit a top speed of four hundred and seventy.”

The driver licked his lips. Four hundred and seventy was not the engine’s limit, but his own.

“Still flawed.”

The driver shook his head, but he soon thought of something, and his gaze fell on the passenger seat.

That kid—had he paid?

All at once, the driver felt as if he had lost far more than several million.

The faceless man had already disappeared from the car.

Inside the mountain forest, Lin Qian paid no mind to his own condition and ran toward the wheat field in the far distance.

The eye on the mask kept turning, and cold gloom wrapped around the master wearing the mask.

Supernatural power was being used.

Very soon, Lin Qian was only a thousand meters or so away from that wheat field.

But suddenly, he came to an abrupt stop.

Ahead, on the ridge between the fields, stood two people.

One was the faceless man. The other was an old man with a gloomy expression.

“Kid, you sure can run.” He Liansheng looked coldly at Lin Qian.

The moment he saw that eerie mask on Lin Qian’s face, killing intent boiled in his heart.

He had almost nurtured a tiger to bring calamity upon himself.

“If that old senior I summoned hadn’t deliberately refused to catch up to you, you wouldn’t have lived this long.”

Among the old-timers from the Republican era, which one of them didn’t know how to turn a ghost domain into a rainbow?

Yet the other party had insisted he could not catch up to this kid. How was that possible?

He simply had not wanted to chase him down.

Left with no choice, He Liansheng could only attempt to turn his own ghost domain into a rainbow.

Clearly, he had succeeded.

Turning a ghost domain into a rainbow was not difficult at all.

Lin Qian looked at the faceless man and He Liansheng.

He knew he was in trouble.

The people of Taiping Ancient Town really were cautious.

They refused to leave him even the slightest chance.

“Why must you wipe me out completely? Did I ever offend you?”

A gloomy voice came from Lin Qian’s throat.

The pitch-black ghost eye on the mask stopped turning and stared straight at the two terrifying ghost wielders.

“A thousand-li dike collapses because of an ant hole,” He Liansheng replied coldly.

From the moment this kid appeared in Taiping Ancient Town, he had been destined to die.

To say nothing of the fact that this kid had even controlled the mask of the opera ghost.

That made it even more impossible to let him live.

His family had died because of them, and now he had become a ghost wielder as well.

Who knew whether he might bring disaster to Taiping Ancient Town in the future?

Even if the odds were very low, they would not gamble.

They had been cautious their entire lives. They could not stumble here because of this one incident.

He Liansheng’s answer made Lin Qian’s heart turn cold.

Pulling weeds up by the roots.

The other party truly no longer cared about face at all.

“You’re hunting me down with such great fanfare. Aren’t you afraid?”

Lin Qian adjusted his breathing. The two of them had already triggered his killing pattern.

As long as he wanted, he could attack them at any time.

But he would die even faster.

How should he break out of this situation?

From the moment he was caught, he had been thinking about this very question.

It was true that he had controlled a ghost, but the two people before him had at least two ghosts each as a foundation.

Not to mention He Liansheng could also summon souls.

If he summoned some old antique to appear, one glare would be enough to kill him.

He could not win in a fight, and outsmarting them would not work either.

Thinking carefully, no method would work.

Was he really destined to die here?

“Afraid? Afraid of what?”

He Liansheng asked, somewhat puzzled.

He did not know what there was to fear.

Suddenly, he thought of something. “Do you mean the ghost in that rice field behind you?”

He Liansheng turned back and glanced at the withered yellow rice field behind him.

There was indeed a ghost inside, but it was not in a state of revival.

Though it was close.

As long as a few more people died inside, the ghost within would completely revive.

Lin Qian remained silent.

But the cold gloom around him grew even deeper.

Seeing that Lin Qian said nothing, He Liansheng narrowed his eyes and smiled. “Kid, you’re very smart, but still far too inexperienced.”

“Is that so?”

Hearing this, Lin Qian suddenly smiled.

A white mask. Black eyes.

A terrifying supernatural force descended abruptly.

He Liansheng froze slightly. Very soon, he sensed that something extra had appeared inside his body, and it was trying to burrow deeper within him.

The faceless man stood up, and his entire body was suddenly shrouded in a gray gloom.

The surrounding grass and trees rustled, then rapidly withered.

“Seeking death!”

He Liansheng snorted coldly. Supernatural power erupted, and the supernatural force within his body was directly suppressed, then annihilated.

If this kid had controlled the complete opera ghost, then at this moment, He Liansheng could only have waited for the thing inside him to come out before he could suppress it.

This was a kind of curse.

But the faceless man specialized precisely in this type of curse.

That was why He Liansheng had brought the faceless man along.

It was to guard against the possibility that the other party had controlled the opera ghost.

Now it seemed he had been right.

“Kid, it’s time for you to die!”

A terrifying supernatural aura suddenly radiated from He Liansheng.

Immediately after, Lin Qian let out a pained wail, and his entire body rapidly turned ashen and decayed.

Without the slightest room to struggle, Lin Qian collapsed directly to the ground.

“He’s dead?” He Liansheng frowned.

The faceless man nodded. “He is indeed dead. The supernatural force has been suppressed.”

“The mask the other party controlled has a very low level of terror.”

A line of text appeared above the faceless man’s head as he spoke.

Judging from the other party’s attack just now, his fierce ghost was very weak, not as terrifying as theirs.

Besides, even if he had controlled the complete opera ghost, they still had methods to kill him.

As long as he was dead, it was fine.

He Liansheng appeared instantly before Lin Qian’s corpse and reached out directly toward the mask.

With this mask, they could find the escaped opera ghost and imprison it again.

This mask could also be used for soul-calling.

All these things were being left for the future He Yin’er.

They would never allow anything belonging to He Yin’er to be taken away from Taiping Ancient Town.

But at that very moment, He Liansheng’s face instantly darkened.

A cold gloom appeared, and the mask vanished eerily.

The faceless man abruptly raised his head.

……

On the highway, Lin Qian, covered in blood, got into that taxi.

The taxi could still start. With a roar, it sped straight into the distance.

By the roadside, a middle-aged man with a large hole torn open in his stomach lay in a pool of blood, his expression filled with pain and despair.
