The seven people who had come here clearly all knew the killing pattern of the malevolent ghost in the subway.
After entering the subway tunnel, they had kept against the wall from beginning to end, avoiding facing it head-on or turning their backs to it after getting close.
Even if, by terrible coincidence, the malevolent ghost happened to be standing facing the wall, it would first attack the two mercenaries at the front.
Even if there was less than a second of buffer time, with two mercenaries in front, the people behind could immediately change their positions and avoid triggering the ghost’s killing pattern again.
It was obvious that these people had come here for Wang Liang. What they did not know, however, was that the brief conversation they had just had had been heard in its entirety by an invisible person beside them.
Within the deeper-layer ghost domain, Wang Liang looked at the illusory silhouettes of the three ghost controllers from reality before him, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
Then his figure gradually appeared in reality, materializing before them.
“Stop!” Sun Qiang suddenly shouted.
Cold sweat slid down his forehead as he looked at the figure emerging from the air ahead of them.
Sun Qiang had thought it was an unknown malevolent ghost, but when he saw the other party’s face clearly with the help of his night-vision device, his eyes filled with disbelief.
“Wang Liang! You—why are you here? How did you appear!”
“Why do you look so surprised? Weren’t you here for me? You even wanted to make your move while I was handling a supernatural incident. This isn’t your first time doing this, is it? Was the previous time Sun Su?”
Wang Liang said expressionlessly:
“So there really was something wrong with Sun Su’s death. You have quite the nerve, daring to attack a city handler. Those two with guns in the back look a little familiar. I think they came to my place last time with someone wearing gold-rimmed glasses. Are you people from Yongsheng Club?”
Seeing that Wang Liang seemingly had not gone to deal with the malevolent ghost first, but had instead appeared before them using some eerie ability—and had heard their brief conversation earlier—Sun Qiang knew the plan had been exposed.
But it did not matter. If the ambush failed, they could still fight him head-on.
After all, they had three ghost controllers here, as well as four elite mercenaries specialized in dealing with ghost controllers.
There was only one person on the other side. Their odds of victory were very high. Sun Qiang’s face turned ruthless as he snarled hideously:
“So what if we are? We gave you a chance to cooperate and you refused. We gave you face, but you didn’t want it. Now you have to die! The plan’s exposed—everyone, attack!”
The first to obey the order and act were the four well-trained mercenaries.
The moment Sun Qiang finished speaking, the four mercenaries no longer stayed pressed against the wall. They immediately spread out, raised the special firearms in their hands, and pulled the triggers.
One specially made gold bullet after another left the barrels, shooting forward at high speed. They pierced through Wang Liang’s faint, illusory body and struck the tunnel wall behind him, but caused Wang Liang no harm whatsoever.
Gold also existed within the deeper-layer ghost domain, but since Wang Liang dared to show himself, he would not let them see his true position. What they could see was only an illusion.
Although the Slit-Mouthed Woman’s ghost domain was not as adept at creating illusions as Yang Jian’s Ghost Eye, simple refraction of light and shadow, alteration of space, and less complex illusions were all things it could accomplish with ease.
“Gold bullets worth a hundred thousand each, and you’re firing them like this. You really are rich,” Wang Liang said calmly.
Seeing that the gold bullets were actually useless, and that the other party even had the leisure to speak, the mercenaries’ expressions all changed. This was the first time they had encountered such an eerie ghost controller.
“Plan B,” the mercenary captain immediately shouted.
He took a grenade from his waist and prepared to throw it forward.
This was also a specially made weapon. What exploded from it was not gunpowder or shrapnel, but gold powder.
He wanted to use this method to try to break through the opponent’s bizarre state of being impossible to attack.
Putting aside whether that would work or not, before he could do so, Sadako’s curse had already spread over.
Even if what they saw was only Wang Liang’s illusion, it could still serve as a medium to release the curse.
Pffft.
The mercenary captain had only just raised his hand when a deathly pale ghostly arm suddenly stretched hideously out of one of his eyes. It brutally tore open the captain’s eye socket, sending a spray of blood splattering out.
It was not over yet. The moment that deathly pale arm emerged, its joints immediately twisted in an unnatural reversal. With a backhanded motion, it clamped around the mercenary captain’s neck and wrenched hard.
Crack.
The mercenary captain’s remaining eye widened. His neck bones snapped, and he collapsed powerlessly to the ground. The grenade in his hand rolled aside with a clatter.
“Captain!”
The other three mercenaries cried out in shock, turning their heads in terror to look ahead.
“You attacked a city handler. You can die too,” Wang Liang coldly passed judgment.
Then those three met the same fate. Three deathly pale, hideous arms abruptly stretched out from the mercenaries’ eyes. Their joints reversed, and they eerily snapped the men’s necks.
In only a few seconds, the remaining three ghost controllers had just drawn a breath and were preparing to use the power of their ghosts to cooperate with the mercenaries in attacking Wang Liang. But when they saw this scene, half their courage instantly leaked away.
“Wh-what kind of ghost ability is this?!” Qu Bo’s eyes widened, but he immediately lowered his head, not daring to look forward.
“Who cares? Stop wasting words and attack!”
Cold sweat kept breaking out on Sun Qiang, but the arrow was already on the string and had to be loosed.
He did not look at Wang Liang, fearing he would follow in the mercenaries’ footsteps. With a low roar, he activated the supernatural power of the malevolent ghost inside him.
A cold, sinister aura emanated from Sun Qiang’s body. His body trembled unnaturally, and with a ripping sound, several sharp, yellowed bone spurs stained with blood pierced through his clothes from his shoulders and beneath his ribs.
Sun Qiang’s expression was savage. The pain made him suck in a cold breath, but he endured it and immediately strode forward, charging at Wang Liang, trying to drive the bloodstained bone spurs on his body into him.
Although the other party’s state looked impossible to attack, and he seemed to be using a ghost domain only a terrifying malevolent ghost should possess, Sun Qiang had no way out now. He could only try.
The mercenaries’ attacks had been ineffective, but perhaps the power of his malevolent ghost could strike the other party?
Sun Qiang roared as he charged over, but Wang Liang’s faint body rapidly faded at that moment. The illusion presented before their eyes did the same, completely vanishing into the air.
This made Sun Qiang slam into empty space. His steps staggered, and he raised his head in bewilderment, unable to find his target.
But he was still in a state of using the ghost’s supernatural power, constantly intensifying the ghost’s revival. He could not waste time like this.
The malevolent ghost inside Sun Qiang’s body was continuously sending out throbbing pulses. Several shorter bloodstained bone spurs were piercing through his clothes from other parts of his body, gradually emerging.
“Damn it! Where are you?! Wang Liang, get the hell out here!” Sun Qiang shouted unwillingly.
“Ah!”
While Sun Qiang was shouting blindly, a scream suddenly came from behind him. He immediately turned his head to look, only for his pupils to shrink.
He saw a female ghost over two meters tall, wearing a tattered long trench coat stained with blood, who had appeared in front of Qu Bo at some unknown point and was clutching Qu Bo’s neck in one hand.
Qu Bo’s eyes were filled with terror. He was being strangled so hard that both feet had left the ground, his body stiff and trembling. Yet he was like a fish hauled onto shore, utterly incapable of resisting. At this moment, even raising his hands felt difficult.
Qu Bo wanted to use the malevolent ghost inside his body to resist, but after being grabbed by the neck, he discovered in horror that the ghost within him seemed to have fallen silent, showing no reaction whatsoever.
This made him no different from an ordinary person right now. He was held in midair, his face flushed red with a bluish tinge, about to suffocate to death.
