Midas with the Absolute Glasses: Episode 6

Yuhan's father, who had been sitting quietly beside him, asked back in surprise.

Because what the doctor had said was somehow strange.

“There were no tests other than the initial gastroscopy. I’m saying a biopsy was not performed.”

“What? You didn’t receive a biopsy? Huh? Mr. I Jeong-hwan?”

Suddenly, the atmosphere grew awkward.

At the same time, the doctor called a nurse aside and went somewhere.

Sensing that the situation was taking a strange turn, Yuhan looked at his father through his glasses and thought,

‘Where does it hurt?’

[There was inflammation in the stomach. It has nearly healed now.]

“Huh…?”

It was the first time he had realized that the glasses could assess physical conditions and even provide a diagnosis.

And until now, the glasses had never once been wrong.

The likelihood that the test results were wrong had increased.

Shortly after, the doctor disappeared, and a nurse came in his place and said,

“I… I think something is wrong!”

“What do you mean something is wrong?”

“Mr. I Jeong-hwan’s chart… was switched with another patient’s.”

“What? What do you mean?”

“It seems there was a diagnostic error because of another patient’s chart!”

“It seems? Please tell me exactly. What does that mean?”

“I think we’ll have to run the tests again to know for sure!”

“Retests?”

“You need to get the gastroscopy again, and afterwards, you’ll have to redo the biopsy to determine if it’s negative or positive!”

At her words, Yuhan tilted his head.

“I don’t quite understand.”

“Just get tested again! If you’re fine, you don’t have to!”

There was something brazen about her tone.

At this, Yuhan began to feel annoyed.

“What kind of talk is that? Saying he can take it or not. It seems your side made the mistake here.”

“I don’t know either. The doctor told me to handle it this way!”

Yuhan no longer wanted to hear such nonsense.

He immediately escorted his father out of the examination room.

Angry and worked up, Yuhan tried to think of what to do but had no idea.

Then, feeling that something was off, he even considered going to a different hospital for tests.

But he felt so wronged that he wanted to reach a resolution at the current hospital.

He tried to think of someone who could help him, for he knew nothing about medicine.

At the same time, he called Gim Seon.

“Hello! It’s me!”

—Huh? Yuhan! Why are you calling? I heard you were going to the hospital today.

“If you’re not busy, please help me!”

—Huh? Where are you? Are you at the hospital?

Gim Seon hung up and arrived at the hospital about an hour later.

She came to meet Yuhan and was surprised to see him looking so angry.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Gim Seon, I work with Yuhan.”

“I see! Hello. I am Yuhan’s father.”

After Gim Seon and Yuhan’s father exchanged greetings, Yuhan explained what had happened to Gim Seon.

“First, calm down! Let’s go up to Seoul together! I’ll consult with our family doctor!”

Gim Seon made a reservation at the hospital she went to, and Yuhan persuaded his father to get retested, then they traveled in Gim Seon’s car.

After finishing the tests, they were waiting in front of the examination room.

Gim Seon asked Yuhan,

“But how did you know it was a misdiagnosis?”

“They told me to come with a guardian but gave no explanation at all, which was strange! Then, as I demanded an explanation, they confessed that the charts had been switched.”

“Oh dear… Anyway, the professor we’re meeting now is a good person! You don’t need to worry!”

“Yes! I’m relieved that it’s someone you know!”

Ding-dong—!

[Mr. I Jeong-hwan]

It was Yuhan’s father’s turn, and all three entered the examination room together.

Since they had properly rerun the tests immediately upon arrival, he was able to receive proper treatment.

“How is it, Professor?”

“It’s clean! There is a slight indication of inflammation, but it’s nothing serious, so you can take medicine, and if you eat well, you’ll recover completely.”

“Oh my! Really?”

Gim Seon and his father were astonished, excluding Yuhan.

At this, Yuhan explained to Gim Seon’s family doctor, the professor, about the doctor who had previously diagnosed cancer, as if complaining.

The doctor shook his head upon hearing those words.

“It is indeed a difficult situation. Still, hearing the circumstances, it will be hard to impose a severe punishment.”

“Can’t we file a lawsuit?”

“Honestly, it will be difficult. From a doctor’s standpoint, mistakes are inevitable, and there was no actual harm.”

Yuhan wanted to teach the doctor who had misdiagnosed his father a lesson.

But hearing the doctor’s explanation now, it wasn’t hard to understand, leaving him at a loss.

“Ah….”

“For now, I am acquainted with the director of that hospital, so I’ll try to take measures. And I’ll try to get the consultation and examination fees refunded.”

“So there really is no hope?”

“I’m sorry. Let me apologize in his stead!”

Thinking that the professor in front of him was just the same, Yuhan looked at him through his glasses.

[He is thinking with all his heart. He is a doctor who knows how to sincerely care for patients.]

The glasses acknowledged it. Convinced he was a good doctor, Yuhan decided to follow his words.

“I understand. I will follow the professor’s advice.”

“Thank you.”

His father was relieved that it had been a misdiagnosis.

Soon after, he put his father in a taxi and sent him home first.

“I’m glad your father doesn’t have a serious illness! And you did the right thing!”

“What do you mean?”

“That hospital is quite large, so it would have been hard to win if you had fought!”

“So even with your help, it wouldn’t work!”

“It can’t be helped. I don’t have that level of connections or power right now.”

“It’s so unfair!”

While they were talking, Yuhan received a call.

[Caller: XX Hospital Administration]

“Hello!”

—This is the head of administration at XX Hospital. Is this Mr. I Yuhan?

“Yes! That’s correct.”

—We called Mr. I Jeong-hwan, and he told us to call his son!

“What is it?”

—It seems our attending doctor made a mistake!

“A mistake?”

—There was another patient named I Jeong-han, and it seems he treated you two interchangeably.

“You’re saying that rather easily, aren’t you?”

—We’re sorry. If you send us your account number, we will refund the full examination and consultation fees.

“Does the doctor have no intention of apologizing personally?”

—He is busy now, so I will tell him to call you later.

“Please tell him not to make such mistakes again, and not to live like that!”

Yuhan hung up, the hospital’s attitude making him even angrier before the conversation was even over.

“Was that the hospital?”

“Yes, they say they confused him with someone who has a similar name to my father!”

“So what are they saying?”

“They say they’ll refund the full examination cost!”

“What about an apology?”

“They just said they’ll try to mention it later when they have time!”

“You must feel upset.”

Yuhan was fuming but held it in tightly.

Thinking that there were still things beyond his control even with his newfound ability, all his strength drained away.

‘That’s right! What I have is still very lacking. Just you wait! The day will come when we meet again!’

“Would you like to get some fresh air with me?”

“Huh? Sure!”

Gim Seon, seeing Yuhan drained of energy, perhaps feeling sorry for him, suggested a drive.

Looking at the scenery outside the car, the two conversed.

“Are you very upset?”

“Huh? No! I just feel pathetic because I seem so powerless!”

“Don’t blame yourself! It isn’t your fault, Yuhan!”

“Power is money, after all, isn’t it?”

“I can’t say it isn’t. But there are people who aren’t like that!”

“Even those people wouldn’t think that way if they were in trouble themselves.”

“Do you want to become rich?”

“Yes! So much so that no one can say anything to me!”

Yuhan recalled the nightmares of his high school days.

He had been severely bullied.

The guys who bullied him had parents with good backgrounds.

No matter what he said to those around him, it was impossible to get through to them.

Even the teachers who learned of Yuhan’s bullying overlooked it lightly while minding their parents’ moods.

The unfair and difficult situation persisted for three years, but he endured by thinking of his struggling parents.

“Even now, there must be others who are as wronged and distressed as I was, right?”

“There must be! Because the world isn’t so fair!”

“I want to have power! So I can help those who are wronged!”

“Yes! Cheer up!”

To Gim Seon, Yuhan’s words did not sound like mere talk.

She felt that he would be able to do so someday.

‘I’ll help you! Please make it come true!’

Gim Seon inwardly cheered for Yuhan like that.

Then, while driving with Yuhan, Gim Seon stopped the car somewhere.

The destination was a parking lot at the entrance to a mountainside in the center of Gyeonggi-do.

“Where is this?”

“Follow me!”

They stopped in front of a splendid hanok with a long wall stretching out.

A large hanok, almost in the final stages of construction, modern yet built with dignity, caught Yuhan’s eye.

A gazebo beneath a large zelkova tree in the center of the courtyard. The sight was like a painting.

In the spacious courtyard, a wide main hall and quaint annexes were nearly finished.

The tiled roof was sturdy yet powerfully outstretched, its sharply tapered ends looking splendid.

He couldn’t help but sincerely admire it.

Just as he was thinking how beautifully and elegantly the hanok was built, Gim Seon spoke.

“Isn’t this place magnificent?”

“Ah! Yes, it’s so beautiful, whoever designed it!”

“I did.”

“Ah! So you do such wonderful work too…! Re-eally?”

“Do you like it?”

“…….”

Yuhan had already seen it with his glasses and had a rough idea, but he pretended not to know and played along.

“According to schedule, I would move in two months, but I wanted to show it to you in advance, Yuhan.”

Yuhan was very grateful to Gim Seon.

There had been no one other than his parents who cared for him so much.

After becoming an adult, since his mother had passed away, he had missed this kind of attention greatly.

“Thank you so much! Gim Seon.”

“What are you thanking me for? It’s just an investment!”

“Still, you helped me today, and I haven’t given you anything!”

“You must! Succeed and do good!”

“Of course! I’ll make lots of money and treat you well and help those who are wronged!”

Hearing Yuhan’s words, Gim Seon thought how nice it would be to have a child who spoke so dependably to her.

There was the sorrow and anxiety of being left alone when her beloved husband died of cancer five years ago.

She had lived until now feeling as if she had lost her nest, having been an orphan, but after meeting Yuhan, she felt a desire to lean on him and to place her hopes in him.

The two looked at the bustling construction site and dreamed of the future they would share.

* * *

Though it was summer with the heat at its peak, people continued to line up at this fortune-telling house.

The Seongeon-dosa had become famous on social media, drawing more people.

Gim Seon and I Da-hui were frantically busy, and Yuhan sat all day today reading people’s fortunes.

One customer expressed satisfaction, thanked Seongeon-dosa Yuhan, and went out the door.

‘Why? Won’t someone with a fated connection appear, like Gim Seon?’

Due to his father’s hospital incident, Yuhan wanted to have many powerful people by his side.

But after operating for over a month, among countless customers, there had been no one like Gim Seon who recommended him.

‘Hurry up and appear!’

Finishing that thought, he greeted the next customer.

Two middle-aged men in neat suits sat before Yuhan.

Yuhan looked at the one who appeared to be of higher status through his glasses and thought.

He sprang up and greeted that person.

“It will be in two years. You will succeed. Don’t join any faction, and continue straight on the path you have walked until now!”

“Ha~ My goodness! I’m not a very well-known person around here, but you are a true Do-sa! If I don’t join any faction, can I really succeed as you say?”

“You will. Exactly two years from now.”

“Since I wasn’t the one who asked, may I inquire about one thing?”

At that moment, Gim Seon stepped forward and spoke.

“Of course! Please consider what he just said as a free reading from the Do-sa and feel free to ask!”

“Hmm~ Then, if I may be so bold, I will ask one thing.”

When the higher-ranking middle-aged man looked at the man beside him, the man placed a prepared envelope of money on the table.

“If I succeed in two years as you say, can you stay by my side? It will be quite important to me.”

“That is……?”

“I suppose you need time to think? When the time comes, I shall visit again!”
