Confused and disoriented, Toyosawa Yosuke was taken away by Chen Lai.
She had seen on Instagram that for some reason, the frequency of robberies in Shibuya District had been unusually high this month.
At the time, she hadn't thought much of it. After all, Shibuya was notoriously bustling with commerce, and with the current economic downturn, it was perfectly normal for robbers to target the area.
But now, she was completely baffled. The man beside her clearly wasn't an ordinary person—the muscles bulging under his clothes, his sharp, handsome features… A man like him could walk into any gym and work as a trainer, earning far more than he ever could from robbery, right?
"Hello, beautiful policewoman. I'm a foreigner. Would you mind showing me your service weapon?"
Inside Shibuya Police Station, a tall man leaned down before Policewoman Kyoko and posed this question.
If this man had been asking her out on a date, Kyoko would have answered "I do." But instead of trying to get her into bed, he wanted to literally handle her gun—now that was just messed up!
"Go check another police station. All our guns have already been borrowed. Seriously, why do weirdos like you come asking to borrow guns every single day!"
Kyoko, who was pulling a solo shift, was fuming. Was the police station some kind of supermarket?
Every day, people came in for zero-dollar shopping.
Hearing this answer, the tall man wasn't the least bit surprised. He checked the [Shibuya Incident] online player count and nodded.
[Shibuya Incident - Online Players: 233]
As expected, his fellow players were not ones to be trifled with—they had already borrowed every last gun.
However, this kind of behavior would definitely draw the attention of Jujutsu High. Jujutsu sorcerers with cursed energy but no identification, operating on Shibuya's little patch of turf, would get arrested sooner or later.
"Thanks for the heads-up. But do you mind if I use that computer over there?"
Chen Lai pointed at a computer displaying real-time surveillance footage inside the police station and asked another question.
"If I said no, would you not use it? Five minutes until my shift ends. Do as you please."
Kyoko slumped over her desk, speaking irritably.
"Much obliged."
Chen Lai strode straight toward the computer. Behind him, Toyosawa Yosuke followed with her head down.
"Hey, little miss, why are you following him? Hurry home. Don't get involved in this kind of dangerous business."
Seeing that Toyosawa Yosuke was actually following Chen Lai, Kyoko grew wary. The wave of robberies and murders during this period was all caused by mysterious people like Chen Lai.
These guys had no morals, disregarded the law, and only respected fists and firepower. Who knew how much suffering they had caused in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
A delicate little white flower like Toyosawa Yosuke—if she followed this man, she'd surely be swallowed whole, not a single drop left.
At this thought, Kyoko couldn't stand it anymore. She drew her service weapon and pointed it at Chen Lai.
Thumbing off the safety, Kyoko's voice turned cold.
"You weirdos, I don't know what you're trying to do in Shibuya, but don't do it in front of a police officer—"
Before Kyoko could finish, a muscular figure blocked the overhead light, stepping in front of her.
"So you do have a service weapon? Tsk, figures it's this small-caliber type. No wonder nobody borrowed it."
"Just a toy. Keep it and play with it yourself."
After abruptly appearing before Kyoko, Chen Lai merely inspected the gun in her hand, then returned to the computer with little interest.
"Hey, you!" Kyoko felt her dignity being trampled.
She was a police officer! A Shibuya Police Station officer who had passed through layers of selection and exams! This service weapon had been with her since the day she graduated!
To be humiliated as a toy… utterly unforgivable!
"Officer Kyoko… please don't be angry. I'm his tour guide. He said he wasn't familiar with Shibuya District, so he hired me as his day guide."
Toyosawa Yosuke glanced at the name tag on Kyoko's chest and explained in a small voice.
"Do you even believe that yourself?"
With a single sentence, Kyoko left Toyosawa Yosuke speechless.
"Um… Mr. Chen is so handsome. He should be a good person, right?"
Toyosawa Yosuke was young and had an extra soft filter for good-looking people.
This sentence thoroughly enraged Kyoko. She holstered her pistol, hands on her hips, ready to lecture Toyosawa.
Just then, a completely blue cursed spirit with a massive single eye swaggered in through the police station's main entrance.
"F*ck, my one-month extraction window is almost up… What kind of bullsh*t Shibuya Incident is this? I haven't even seen a single other player like me!"
"Forget it. I'll find a few NPCs to have fun with. I wasted a whole month entering this instance—can't exactly return empty-handed, can I?"
The blue one-eyed cursed spirit walked into the police station. At a glance, it took a liking to the generously endowed Kyoko and the youthful, vibrant Toyosawa Yosuke.
Its rough, barbed tongue licked its single eye, and a disgusting lust flickered in that disturbingly human eye.
"Player?"
Chen Lai, who was sitting before the monitors looking at buildings in downtown Shibuya, noticed that bizarre marker at first glance.
[ID: Happy Superman]
[Loot Value: ?]
The glaring ID hovered there, yet Chen Lai couldn't see anyone beneath it. He instantly understood—this was because he had no cursed energy, and [Happy Superman] was definitely a cursed spirit!
As for Loot Value, that was easy to understand. It was equivalent to the total value of items in one's backpack. Before opening it, only the owner could see it.
"Kill people and then loot their boxes? So it's an anime version of Delta Force, huh?"
Chen Lai smiled. He grabbed a nearby stool with one hand and swept his hair back over the top of his head, then strode quickly toward [Happy Superman], who was also a player.
Chen Lai's footsteps were naturally detected by the player, who was a cursed spirit.
It sized up Chen Lai's attire and found no obvious jujutsu sorcerer equipment on him. Even less did he resemble those big-shot players with abundant cursed energy.
Then it showed a joyous expression like it had "hit the jackpot."
"Another idiot who rushed into a classified instance without reading the guide. Fine, let this veteran player teach you a lesson!"
As it spoke, the blue cursed spirit pressed its tiny arms together, and fluorescent-blue cursed energy glowed before its massive single eye.
That single eye brimmed with malicious intent and hunger for the gear on Chen Lai's body!
[Cursed Technique: Myriad Bug Manipulation]
…
The reason cursed spirits were powerful was because they possessed bodies more durable than jujutsu sorcerers and more specialized cursed techniques.
Deep Sea's famous gold farmer and streamer [Doge of Venice] had given this evaluation during his first playthrough of [Shibuya Incident].
In his assessment, for players with equivalent loadouts, if one chose a cursed spirit over a jujutsu sorcerer, the cursed spirit's strength would be more than double!
Therefore, new players entering the [Shibuya Incident] classified instance were advised to choose cursed spirits rather than jujutsu sorcerers. This would give them an advantage in player-versus-player combat.
…
Inside the police station, Toyosawa Yosuke and Kyoko saw Chen Lai suddenly walking toward them, a chair clutched tightly in his hands.
This man—had he finally been unable to suppress his true nature?
Toyosawa Yosuke couldn't tell whether what she felt inside was fear or anticipation. Kyoko, meanwhile, bit her lip, drew her service weapon again, and pointed it at Chen Lai.
"Shh."
Chen Lai pressed a finger to his lips—a gesture meant for Kyoko.
