Chapter 25: Let Me Feast My Eyes

Mu Yelei narrowed his eyes as he watched Jin Junxi and Hua Ling, who seemed to be very familiar with each other. He did not remember the two of them having any kind of friendship. What exactly was going on? Just now, Jin Junxi had said he had come to look for Xia Ziying, and Xia Ziying had also said she had thought he would have arrived earlier. It seemed the two of them had made an appointment. What on earth were they planning to do?

An inexplicable emotion took hold of Mu Yelei. He suddenly wrapped an arm around Hua Ling’s waist and said to Jin Yuwei, “Weren’t you asking who she is? I’ll tell you—she is your sister-in-law, Xia Ziying. Yuwei, why haven’t you greeted your sister-in-law yet?” As he said this, he deliberately glanced at Jin Junxi. Sure enough, when he saw the astonishment on his face, he immediately felt a rush of satisfaction.

“So you’re Sister-in-law! I heard long ago that Brother Yelei had gotten married, but I’ve been away and never had the chance to meet you. Today, my wish has finally come true. Sister-in-law, you’re so beautiful. You and my Brother Yelei are truly a perfect match,” Jin Yuwei said happily. The moment she saw Hua Ling, she liked her immensely. The two of them really did look well matched!

Hearing Jin Yuwei praise her like that, Hua Ling felt a little embarrassed. But it infuriated Lan Xuefei, who had been hoping to stir up trouble. She had originally thought Jin Yuwei would definitely hate Xia Ziying just as she did, but now it seemed she had miscalculated again.

Jin Junxi looked somewhat surprised to see Mu Yelei treating Xia Ziying so intimately. Didn’t he hate her very much? When had his attitude changed, and become so intimate at that?

Hua Ling, however, was not thinking about any of that. She assumed Mu Yelei was merely putting on an act, so she might as well help him along. Right now, she was more interested in whether Mu Yelei had made that waterwheel, so she casually asked, “What do you think of that waterwheel? I fell asleep last night and didn’t get the chance to ask you.”

Mu Yelei had not expected Hua Ling to change the subject. After a slight pause, he said, “It’s excellent. But to be safe, I still plan to make a sample first. Once it has been tested, we can promote it on a large scale.”

“That’s exactly how it should be done. And I think it may need to be modified constantly during the manufacturing process. After all, the drawing I made yesterday wasn’t very detailed.” Hua Ling rather admired how thoroughly Mu Yelei had considered things. It showed that he truly was a good prime minister who cared for the people, though he was not a good husband.

“Yes. There are some parts where I’ll still need your help. After the craftsmen arrive, if they ask me, I won’t be able to explain it clearly, so I’ll have to trouble you to explain it to them,” Mu Yelei replied. At this moment, his mind had turned back to work, and he temporarily chose to forget everything else.

“No problem. If there’s anything, just ask me. I don’t have much else to do anyway,” Hua Ling said with a smile. This was her first major experiment after coming to ancient times. If it succeeded, she would feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment. More importantly, it could benefit the common people—that was what satisfied her the most.

“What are you two talking about? It sounds so strange. I don’t care, I want to know,” Jin Yuwei said coquettishly, unable to suppress her curiosity. Her willow brows were slightly furrowed, and her little mouth was faintly pouting. She was truly adorable.

Hua Ling did not know why, but she simply liked her very much. She replied, “We’re researching something that can draw water automatically. It’s very interesting. Do you want to see it?”

“Yes, I do! Where is it? Where?” Jin Yuwei looked all around and asked anxiously.

“Don’t be in such a hurry. It hasn’t been made yet. Once it’s finished, I’ll call you over to be the first to see it, all right?” Hua Ling said, looking at Jin Yuwei.

“We still have to wait so long? I don’t care, I want to see the drawing first. Let me at least feast my eyes on it,” Jin Yuwei said, grabbing Hua Ling’s hand. Then she continued, “Sister-in-law, please? Let me see it first.”
