Chapter 9 Emperor's Champion and Boarding Battle

7 min read1,749 words

The shotgun in Daqi’s hands was only green-quality, but it was the same model as the Doom Slayer’s.

Against daemons, it was truly right up his alley.

Two shots took care of the daemon and grievously wounded Litara, this possessed warrior.

With the daemon’s destruction, the horns on Litara’s head, the claws on his hands, and other mutations vanished one by one. The hideous possessed warrior reverted to his original appearance.

“My power!!”

Litara’s voice was filled with despair, his gaze toward Daqi both shocked and furious.

He couldn’t understand why the weapon in his opponent’s hands could kill a daemon??

One had to understand, daemons were extremely difficult to kill. Even the Grey Knights, who specialized in dealing with daemons, only banished them back to the Warp.

The shotgun in this guy’s hands looked so old, yet it could annihilate the daemon possessing him.

This wasn’t the fucking Warp at all!!

Gods, someone’s cheating! Are you going to do anything about this??

“Die, traitor.”

Daqi held his chainsword and hopped toward his opponent.

Bang! Bang!

The other Chaos Space Marines pulled their triggers at Daqi. Boltguns roared, spitting fire.

A barrage of bolts poured toward him, intending to force Daqi back.

But as a player, trading injuries for a kill was just standard procedure. Relying on the terrifying defense of his Tartaros Terminator armor, Daqi tanked several bolts and charged to Litara’s front.

However, as a battle-hardened Word Bearers warrior who had forged a pact with a daemon through sheer willpower, Litara’s strength was still considerable.

“In the name of the Gods.”

Litara forcibly suppressed his pain and counterattacked with his staff. Having lost the daemon’s empowerment and reverted to his original body, though somewhat unaccustomed to it, his close combat techniques and battle experience far surpassed Daqi’s.

Blocking Daqi’s chop, he pressed downward and tried to follow up with an elbow strike.

The sequence was executed flawlessly. Unfortunately, Daqi was wearing Tartaros Terminator armor, and its frightening defense rendered Litara’s combat techniques a laughingstock.

Historically, Abaddon the Despoiler had fallen into disadvantage during duels on multiple occasions, relying entirely on Terminator armor to turn the tables and secure victory. From this, one could see the terrifying defensive advantage Terminator armor provided in a duel.

The other Chaos warriors, seeing this, wanted to swarm him and overwhelm Daqi with numbers.

“Enemies of the Emperor, die.”

At the critical moment, Galein, Emperor’s Champion of the Black Templars, rushed from the end of the corridor with two battle-brothers, shouting as he fired his bolter.

After downing two Chaos Space Marines, Galein reached the Chaos warriors. He tossed aside his bolter and wielded the Black Sword blessed by the Emperor, plunging into the enemy formation and preventing those Chaos warriors from intervening in the duel between Daqi and Litara.

“Why is this boss so fast!!”

Daqi blocked Litara’s attacks while mentally complaining about the developers.

Your Easy Mode is more outrageous than other games’ Hell Mode.

This is deliberate noob trapping!!

I’m reporting this, I have to report this.

Litara’s movements were too fast, and he was proficient in all kinds of martial arts and psychic powers. Without the Tartaros armor, Daqi probably wouldn’t have lasted ten moves before being killed. But the situation was still grim. After the fierce exchange, several shocking gouges had appeared on the surface of the Terminator armor. If this continued, even wearing Terminator armor, Daqi would be cut down.

“Stomp.”

Daqi stomped the ground, creating a shockwave that forced Litara back. Immediately after, he pulled out his shotgun, and when Litara lunged at him again, he pulled the trigger and fired.

Litara felt like he’d been struck by a gunship at full speed, instantly sent flying backward to crash heavily onto the ground.

Outside seven paces, the gun is fast; within seven paces, the gun is both fast and accurate.

The ancients truly did not deceive me. What kind of grandmaster doesn’t use a gun when they have one?

Litara stared at Daqi, his eyes filled with rage. They were clearly dueling, yet this guy pulled out a gun and fired. The lackeys of the Corpse Emperor these days truly had no martial honor whatsoever!!

Fortunately, Daqi didn’t have a mind-reading skill, or he would have righteously told him that as a player, what martial honor did he have? His heart was already black, and the concept of face absolutely didn’t exist for him.

To ensure Litara was dead, Daqi walked over and fired another round, pulverizing his head. Immediately after, Daqi stowed his gun and chainsword, took out his Ruyi Staff, and joined the melee.

Daqi leaped up and brought his Ruyi Staff down on a Word Bearer whose armor was covered in spikes and Chaos symbols.

“That kind of skill?”

That Word Bearer sneered inwardly at the sight. He stepped back, trying to dodge the Ruyi Staff.

The next instant, he saw the Ruyi Staff suddenly grow longer and larger. With a bang, it smashed into his helmet. Even with the protection of the Gods, this blow shattered his skull, turning his brain into paste and killing him on the spot.

Before his soul was dragged into the Warp to be devoured by starving daemons, that Word Bearer still wore an expression of disbelief. Gods, what the hell was this thing? Why could this weapon change its size and length at will? Cheating! This was definitely cheating! Gods, the humans are cheating! Aren’t you going to do anything?!

One had to admit, the Ruyi Staff was a divine weapon in close combat. The enemy simply couldn’t predict the weapon’s attack range and power.

Daqi, Galein, and the other two Black Templars joined forces and quickly cleared out the enemies invading the B-7 boarding deck. To prevent enemies from continuing to board from this location, Daqi exchanged for a Mithril Pickaxe (1-Day), mined out metal cubes in the corridor, and stacked them together to block the passage.

Galein and the other two Black Templars stared dumbfounded. They had never seen such a method. To actually be able to hammer metallic structures into small cubes—such a method was simply inconceivable.

After sealing off one route, Daqi hopped and skipped toward the next red dot area on his minimap. Galein and his two battle-brothers followed close behind.

“Your combat skills are too poor. If we survive this crisis, I can teach you a few sword techniques.” On the way, Galein couldn’t help but say to Daqi. As an Emperor’s Champion of superb combat skill, Galein could tell at a glance that Daqi had no combat experience, relying entirely on his special weapons and Tartaros Pattern Terminator armor to brute-force his way through.

“Am I gaining NPC favorability points?” Daqi was delighted. It seemed he could learn sword skills from the other party.

Meanwhile, Archmagos Cawl retrieved the Armour of Fate from the stasis chamber and placed it inside a modified transport vehicle. They would take a transport to the surface of the ice world to seek the path spoken of by the Living Saint Celestine.

When everything was ready, High Marshal Amalrich of the Black Templars spoke up: “The Black Templars will remain and perish with the Ark, buying you enough time.”

“This behavior is excessively foolish. Life is the Emperor’s currency, and you have no right to waste it,” Greyfax objected. Defending an Ark Mechanicus that was about to fall was meaningless; the Black Templars should sacrifice themselves somewhere more valuable. Now, Archmagos Cawl had been bewitched by Celestine’s sorcery. Without the assistance of the Black Templars, even if Greyfax uncovered the false saint’s true face, she would be outnumbered. The Black Templars, absolutely loyal to the Emperor, could help her at the critical moment.

“This is our choice.” Amalrich’s tone was firm. The loss of the Cadian Fortress and the constant fleeing had exhausted this High Marshal both physically and mentally, once making him doubt whether he was a coward for always choosing to run.

“In the name of an Inquisitor, you must come with us.” Greyfax produced her Inquisitorial Seal. This represented the supreme authority of the Inquisition—they had the right to command any Imperial forces in the Emperor’s name. Amalrich was very reluctant, but faced with the Inquisitor’s forcefulness, he could only comply. He could not allow any stain upon his loyalty.

Amalrich was forced to issue a recall order, telling the battle-brothers resisting the invaders to fall back to his position. Galein also received the message. He looked at Daqi, who was using cubes to block the corridor, and said, “Nameless warrior, come with us.”

Daqi glanced at them but ignored them. After finishing sealing the corridor, he hopped and skipped toward the next red dot on his minimap. Galein watched his departing figure, sighed, and silently blessed this nameless warrior, hoping he would escape safely. Then he led his battle-brothers to rendezvous with Amalrich.

After assembling everyone, Archmagos Cawl gave the order to retreat. The moment they left, the massive Ark Mechanicus—the Steel Revenge—began exploding continuously, losing power and plummeting toward the ground.

When Abaddon learned that Archmagos Cawl and the others had escaped using the blizzard, he was furious and immediately sent people to pursue them, ignoring the crashing Ark Mechanicus.

As the Ark Mechanicus fell toward the ground, Daqi ran to the power core that was about to go out of control and mined it away. This caused the Steel Revenge to merely crash and break apart upon hitting the ground, rather than explode due to the power core going critical. This act allowed many Adeptus Mechanicus personnel and Imperial soldiers who had resigned themselves to death to survive.

[You have successfully completed the mission: Cover Archmagos Cawl’s evacuation from the Ark Mechanicus]

[Mission rewards received: 800 EXP, 800 points, Reputation +40, Bamboo-copter x1]

Daqi placed the newly acquired bamboo-copter into his equipment slot. A bamboo-copter appeared on top of his Terminator armor helmet, spinning rapidly. The lift provided by the bamboo-copter allowed Daqi to fly with a light jump.

“There are still three main storyline quests. I need to go find them.” Daqi used the bamboo-copter to fly into the raging blizzard to catch up to Archmagos Cawl and the others. The survivors all saluted Daqi with the sign of the Aquila, marveling that this must have been the Emperor’s arrangement, sending this mysterious warrior to save them. But next, how to survive in this frozen wasteland and receive rescue from the Imperium was up to them.
