Chapter 5

Chapter 5 New Season, Start?

6 min read1,422 words

Could he quickly obtain class resources by piling up large numbers of elite mobs and bosses?

Yi Qingfeng thought as much.

Of course, right now, he still had no way to determine the strength of elites and bosses.

Nor did he know how much stronger they were than ordinary mobs...

Without continuing to explore the new changes on the Comprehensive Network panel, Yi Qingfeng went to cook the rice first.

He had already had little appetite during the day and had only eaten a little in haste.

Now, after a bloody battle, he was ravenous.

In Yi Qingfeng’s view, dishes could be “thrown together quickly.”

But rice had to be waited on properly...

After bustling about in the kitchen for quite a while, he was just holding a bowl, ready to scoop up rice and dig in, when he lifted the lid and saw the despair of a pool of clear water.

That was probably something one could only understand after truly experiencing it once.

Opening the fridge, the abundant reserves belonging to a veteran gaming shut-in immediately came into view:

————

Drinks

————

Fruits and vegetables

————

Meat in the process of thawing (40%)

————

Yi Qingfeng took some green peppers and string beans, then casually opened a bottle of coconut milk.

As mentioned before, because he had not unlocked cooking for very long,

the only dish he had truly mastered was green pepper stir-fried pork.

As for string beans, leafy greens, and the like?

Those were merely embellishments mixed in.

It could also be considered fooling himself into thinking he was properly supplementing vitamins and plant fiber...

With less than nimble movements, he cut up the string beans and green peppers.

Calculating the time, Yi Qingfeng suddenly felt that he could probably have chopped a goblin back and forth in this span...

That bloody and ferocious scene did not seem to have had any particularly intense effect on him.

When it came to emotions, he had always seemed somewhat clumsy and detached.

In this old house separated from the main road by an alley, the world was quiet enough that he could hear the faint birdsong on the treetops outside the window.

Before obtaining the Comprehensive Network, Yi Qingfeng had lived here alone just like this.

This place was his entire world—of course, the true entrance to that world was in front of that square computer desk...

“Sizzle...”

The lard he had rendered last week was almost gone.

So he made do with vegetable oil.

The exhaust fan, probably even older than Yi Qingfeng himself, labored to carry the cooking fumes out of this cramped kitchen.

Though the effect was minimal...

In this old building, knowing when each household ate was never a difficult matter.

If one had also invested a branch talent in the olfactory dimension of ingredient identification,

then knowing what was on the dining table was much the same.

This place was right next to the company where Yi Qingfeng had previously worked.

That was also its greatest value to Yi Qingfeng.

When it came to going to work, he had always been lazy.

And the value of being able to sleep an extra hour in the morning had long since far outweighed its simplicity.

In truth, Yi Qingfeng did not care much about living conditions.

As long as it could have an air conditioner installed and internet connected,

and the overall range of movement was not too oppressive,

that was enough.

In fact, as an old apartment with two bedrooms and one living room,

for Yi Qingfeng, the area he actually used did not exceed two-thirds of it.

Of course, later on, perhaps he would consider moving somewhere else?

As Yi Qingfeng thought about his future plans, a large mixed stir-fry whose main visual theme was provided by the leftover green pepper stir-fried pork from lunch was also completed.

All sorts of messy sauces were truly the gospel of kitchen noobs.

One spoonful went in, and a pot of vegetables that had originally looked thin and bland instantly gained +3 presentation.

Caramelizing sugar?

Take it up with my sauces!

…………

…………

Carrying a plate of rice, Yi Qingfeng sat down in front of his computer desk.

By habit, this was the time to look for some digital side dish.

Of course, today, this computer that he had rewarded himself with at thirty had spent the easiest workday of its life.

There was no need to think about clocking in or work arrangements.

Time no longer seemed so cramped.

While enjoying his rather unappealing dinner, Yi Qingfeng continued to open the Comprehensive Network panel and study it.

Even a new phone required a certain amount of time to become familiar with.

And this Comprehensive Network panel, which used who knew what as a reference, naturally required even more time and effort to be invested.

Or rather:

When he was not running dungeons, this was all he could do.

Turn on the computer and start a game?

Yi Qingfeng felt that he probably would not be able to get into it.

Perhaps his friends in the game would be quite astonished to find that their friend list had, without warning, been shrouded in permanent dimness.

Just like what he had experienced no small number of times over the years in games:

“Logging off, see you tomorrow”—often turned out to be the epitaph of a game character...

Perhaps among them, there were also people like him who had obtained the Comprehensive Network panel?

Of course, it was more likely that they had been ganked by Earth OL.

It was also at this moment that Yi Qingfeng made a new discovery:

Hm?

When Yi Qingfeng’s finger unintentionally drew a dotted line through the void,

he then saw an entirely new panel that had been switched out.

Fuck! It can switch screens?

Yi Qingfeng’s eyes instantly widened.

After that, he saw a newly refreshed Comprehensive Network notification on his retina:

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Warband connection restricted (conditions not met). Based on your current version characteristics, your current basic board for the Multiverse Comprehensive Network player communication forum is: Basic Apprentice Zone (combat/dungeons/currency trading/apprentice-only, board code ZG5327...).”

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Please note: Based on relevant Comprehensive Network player protection regulations, you are temporarily unable to log in to restricted communication boards involving hostile factions, nonhuman civilizations, and other such elements. You may submit a new board code after meeting the basic conditions in order to change your forum’s basic board.”

Communication... forum?

Full of curiosity, Yi Qingfeng clicked into it in the void.

What surprised him rather much was:

There was nothing on the board...

Lag?

A term filled with Earth OL’s modern style flashed through Yi Qingfeng’s mind.

He tried clicking on the board, but still nothing appeared.

Yi Qingfeng: ?

Just as he was studying whether there was some other way to open it,

he suddenly saw the first post:

“[Recruitment Post] Seventh Dusk Brigade, assemble, right here and now!”

And after the first post appeared, other posts quickly sprang up like bamboo shoots after rain:

“[Discussion Post] ?Single-player Comprehensive Network?”

“[Discussion Post] I actually caught up to the legendary new board season!”

“[Discussion Post] Damn, it’s finally my turn too! Comprehensive Network, launch!”

“[Trade Post] Someone sell me a beginner enchanted weapon.”

…………

…………

Faced with the massive number of posts that suddenly surged forth, Yi Qingfeng had originally still wanted to go through them one by one.

This was his usual practice when encountering the pioneering phase of a brand-new game.

Through discussion forums, one could often quickly learn and grasp the basic framework of a game.

Of course, after becoming thoroughly familiar with it, this would often become more like picking up scraps.

From a large number of repetitive, water-filled posts, one had to filter out information that might be valuable.

And the current situation undoubtedly belonged to a field completely unfamiliar to Yi Qingfeng:

He couldn’t finish scrolling. He simply couldn’t finish scrolling...

And in the process of browsing posts, Yi Qingfeng also quickly discovered a problem:

He had a very strong sense of déjà vu toward this.

Although these posters all seemed to be newcomers who had just obtained the Comprehensive Network panel like him,

some among them felt like veterans with first-mover pioneering experience from the international server, returning to the national server to restart a second life...

This group seemed not nearly as unfamiliar with the Comprehensive Network as he was?

Give me some monthly tickets!

P.S. The Comprehensive Network is calling!
