Chapter 15 LV3 Paladin (First Update!)

6 min read1,259 words

As Yi Qingfeng tapped in the void, a new notification refreshed on his retina:

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Consume 5,000 points of killing experience to raise the Paladin class level to lv3? Please note: this operation is irreversible…”

Yi Qingfeng directly selected confirm with his hand:

“Comprehensive Network Notification: 5,000 points of killing experience consumed successfully. Character’s Paladin class level has been raised to lv3. Current killing experience reserves: 3,800…”

“Comprehensive Network Notification: You have received a class baptism. Your basic life intensity (maximum HP, base saves, etc.) has increased considerably!”

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Your combat divine power limit has been updated to: 15/15…”

“Comprehensive Network Notification: You have obtained new class skills: Detect Hostility, Basic Weapon Mastery (Primordial Slaughter).”

Detect Hostility:

Skill Type: Class-restricted skill

Skill Cost: None, or at least 1 point of combat divine power

Skill Level: lv3 (changes according to the Paladin class level)

Skill Effect:

Passive:

Paladins who believe in Primordial Slaughter can sense the hostility of surrounding units (sensing intensity is based on skill level), and have a chance to/are certain to (lv10) see through the stealth and disguise effects of hostile units.

Active:

A Paladin who believes in Primordial Slaughter can, through a swift action, actively trigger a powerful supernatural detection in the surrounding area (area of effect is based on Paladin class level and related bonuses).

All units regarded by the Paladin as enemies will be affected by this detection.

lv5: This powerful supernatural detection can additionally apply a tracking/marking effect from the Paladin class series to detected hostile units.

Basic Weapon Mastery (Primordial Slaughter):

Skill Type: Class-restricted skill

Skill Cost: None

Skill Level: lv1

Skill Effect:

Paladins who believe in Primordial Slaughter can master all melee weapons/weapons (Legendary) capable of slaughter and destruction, but may only choose one of them to activate.

Whenever the Paladin reaches a level multiple of 8, this skill gains +1 level and also gains an additional upper limit for types of weapon mastery.

After activation, the weapon mastery can obtain the corresponding weapon’s specialization level and retain it permanently (only effective when this weapon mastery is activated or when this type of weapon mastery is possessed through other means).

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Based on your version characteristics, you have obtained a new upper limit for treasure-hunting star clusters (2→3)…”

Yi Qingfeng looked at the densely packed notification messages refreshing on his retina.

He could feel his body gradually becoming stronger…

It was not like a direct increase in strength or constitution.

Rather, it was a deeper, more obscure change.

If strength and constitution were compared to height and weight,

then the change currently occurring in his body was probably the density of his bones?

Judging from the Comprehensive Network’s description of it,

the baptism brought about by an increase in class level was a growth that placed greater emphasis on the defensive dimension.

And on a level beyond the material dimension:

a brand-new “field of vision” that he could not clearly describe at the moment silently extended outward…

The furniture and walls in the room were unable to obstruct the stretching of that field of vision.

It was as though, even with his eyes closed, he could still vaguely sense the situation around him.

If he really had to describe it:

this experience was not entirely unfamiliar to Yi Qingfeng.

Setting aside certain unique supernatural elements, if placed within the material dimension, it was probably like:

the blurry world seen by someone with severe myopia after taking off their glasses in an environment lacking sufficiently bright illumination?

Of course, strictly speaking, within the brilliant dimension outlined by light,

the scene he currently perceived was undoubtedly not that rich…

Or perhaps there were elements even stronger than “light” itself occupying the main body of this sort of field of vision.

Namely: goodwill and malice…

At this moment, Yi Qingfeng was inside his rented room.

Naturally, he did not sense any units possessing intense malice.

Instead, beneath the deep night,

he could sense, in the alley separated from his rented room by a wall,

a tabby cat briskly passing by…

Probably?

That lithe and fluid figure was still quite the classic model…

Thus, Yi Qingfeng opened the Comprehensive Network panel.

Aside from Detect Hostility,

raising the Paladin level to 3 had also brought the class skill Basic Weapon Mastery.

On the Comprehensive Network panel, it had a rather complicated description.

Of course, Yi Qingfeng, who had already come into contact with similar mechanisms, quickly understood it.

To put it simply:

it was like his bloodline module, a weapon mastery that could be switched.

And the relatively major difference between the two at present was:

after obtaining his weapon mastery, he could switch it at will.

Of course, for now, there was nothing much to switch to.

Perhaps, aside from the effect of Basic Weapon Specialization itself,

it would allow him to more quickly digest high-quality weapons he obtained?

And so, Yi Qingfeng opened this skill’s detailed panel.

The next moment, following his operation in the void and the fluctuations of his consciousness, a new notification refreshed on his retina:

“Comprehensive Network Notification: lv1 weapon specialization has been switched to two-handed hammer (specialization level: 1).”

Weapon Mastery—Two-handed Hammer

Skill Type: Class skill

Specialization Level: 1

Skill Effect:

When the character uses a two-handed hammer, attack accuracy will receive a considerable increase.

Judging from the Comprehensive Network panel’s description, this skill’s effect did not seem particularly eye-catching.

But to Yi Qingfeng, he could feel the sudden, intense changes surging through his mind!

He tried taking the warhammer out from his item backpack.

Different from the stiffness and coldness he had felt when holding it before,

an indescribable familiarity surfaced in Yi Qingfeng’s heart at this moment.

It was as though he had once wielded this warhammer through countless days and nights…

To Yi Qingfeng, this was undoubtedly a wholly unfamiliar and unique experience.

It was like those obscure bodies of knowledge or complicated skills that had once troubled people.

At this moment, they seemed to have become plug-ins that could be read and loaded at will…

But it still had not reached that dimension akin to technological ascension.

When it came specifically to the specialization dimension of the corresponding weapon,

it still required the individual to be tempered through blood and fire…

It could be considered something between individual training and plug-in loading—a midpoint?

After familiarizing himself with it for a while, Yi Qingfeng put the warhammer away.

He discovered that switching weapon specialization indeed did not have any hard restrictions such as cooldowns.

But if it were in actual combat:

at least for the current him, he still could not achieve a smooth switch without any loss to his combat ability.

After converting to a new weapon specialization, he needed to spend some time adapting.

Of course, this was probably also related to the fact that he was not yet familiar enough with it.

Presumably, after he thoroughly mastered it later, he would be able to make instantaneous switches on the combat dimension…

Thus, Yi Qingfeng opened his personal Comprehensive Network panel.

He was preparing to see how much killing experience was needed to raise Paladin to level 4.

The next moment, a new notification refreshed on his retina:

“Comprehensive Network Notification: Raising the Paladin class level to lv4 requires consuming 15,000 points of killing experience. Current killing experience reserves: 3,800/15,000…”

So it didn’t jump straight to 50,000?

Yi Qingfeng closed the Comprehensive Network panel, rather satisfied…
