“Wait. Is your fourth brother doing this on purpose to mess with me?” Suddenly realizing that something was off, Su Zhirui immediately grabbed Yi Lun, who was trying to flee, and questioned him.
“How could that be? Fourth Sister-in-law, just look at Fourth Brother’s face and you’ll know he’s not capable of doing something like that.” Yi Lun was simply stating the facts. His fourth brother wouldn’t do it himself—he would only give the order, that was all. When dealing with family, he never used his hands, only his mouth.
“True. With that icebox face of his, he only knows how to dominate in bed. Asking him to scheme against someone really would be making things difficult for him.” Su Zhirui curled her lip in disdain and sighed. “Since that’s the case, take me with you when you go out tomorrow. You do your work, and I’ll wander around on my own.”
“Fourth Sister-in-law…” Yi Lun called out, troubled.
“Mm, I’m not deaf. Don’t shout so loudly.”
“Fourth Sister-in-law…”
“Calling me Fourth Mother won’t work either,” Su Zhirui replied.
“Fourth Grandma…”
“Pfft… Did your fourth brother really say nothing at all when he left?”
“Yes,” Yi Lun answered firmly, while inwardly thinking with extreme caution that even if there was something, he wouldn’t dare tell her.
“Then why should I entertain his relatives for him? This bunch of ‘problem people’ from your family should be looking for your fourth brother in the first place, shouldn’t they? It’s settled, then.” Without waiting for Yi Lun to answer again, Su Zhirui made the decision on her own. What a joke. She wasn’t stupid. Why should she put effort into caring for the relatives of a husband who didn’t even care about her?
“You have an objection?” Seeing Yi Lun’s bitter smile, Su Zhirui raised a brow and asked.
“No,” Yi Lun answered, though in his heart he was utterly unwilling. He had known that one should never get involved in matters between this husband and wife. The people Fourth Brother had notified were all “famous” jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards. If they all pounced over at once, wouldn’t they tear off the roof tiles and gnaw down the walls? But Fourth Brother had clearly underestimated this little girl. He could hide, but this little girl could hide too.
“Don’t tell me there are relatives coming the day after tomorrow too.” Seeing his uncertain expression, Su Zhirui immediately understood a little, and her tone naturally gained a dangerous edge.
Yi Lun shrugged, pretending he knew absolutely nothing about the inside story.
“If that many people come, your pants would get squeezed off even on the way to the latrine, wouldn’t they? Fine then. However many days they come, however many days your sister-in-law will stay outside.” Su Zhirui angrily pointed at her own nose as she finished speaking, then returned to her room. Was her brain broken, or had it been caught in a door? To think she had actually delivered herself to their doorstep to be a plaything. Either the words “easy to bully” were written in giant letters on her face, or the words “purely messing with people” were written in giant letters on Yi Lun’s face.
Was tormenting people that much fun? Su Zhirui sat there fuming the entire night. By daybreak, she was still gritting her teeth without letting up.
“Madam, the Old Madam invites you over.” Outside the door, a maid knocked on her door and called out.
“Tell her to go eat shit.”
The maid fell silent for a moment and left, but in the blink of an eye she returned and said, “Madam, Master invites you to the main hall for breakfast.”
“Tell him to go eat shit,” Su Zhirui roared crudely for the second time.
“But Fourth Master has returned.”
“Tell him to… eh?”
After tidying herself up briefly, she walked into the flower hall. The wooden table was already surrounded by people. Aside from the two men on either side quietly eating and drinking on their own, the old woman seated in the place of honor was naturally not so busy. She stared fixedly at Su Zhirui with a gaze that made her hair stand on end, as if she were taking an X-ray of her.
“Fourth Sister-in-law, why are you only here now?” Seeing her dawdle, Yi Lun immediately pulled out a wooden chair for her. But just as she was about to sit, the chair suddenly moved backward. Naturally, she fell to the floor. A burst of laughter immediately rang out in the hall, while her lord husband merely continued eating his breakfast in silence. Forget coming over to help her up—he didn’t even glance in her direction.
