Chapter 84 The Controlled

Time rewound by a few minutes.

Wang Liang had his ghost domain open. His faint, illusory figure passed through the subway station and emerged outside, flashing swiftly across block after block as he headed in a certain direction.

The fleeting, translucent figure made those on the street who accidentally caught sight of him rub their eyes, wondering whether they had suffered heatstroke and were seeing things.

Soon, following the address Captain Wen had sent him, Wang Liang arrived at the foot of the building where Yongsheng Club was located.

According to the files, everyone in this building belonged to Yongsheng Club.

And those who could join this club, whether they were members or internal service staff, were all more or less unclean.

Previously, the authorities had turned a blind eye to them. But now that their higher-ups had chosen to attack the person in charge, and the current person in charge happened to be Wang Liang, who had also issued a warrant, everyone in the club now fell within the scope of arrest.

As far as Wang Liang was concerned, anyone who made a move against him right now—or anyone he deemed an unstable, dangerous factor—could even be sent straight on their way without arrest or trial. That was the authority of the person in charge.

At the entrance to the first floor of Yongsheng Club’s building stood two security guards with sturdy, muscular builds, their black uniforms stretched taut over their bodies. The pouches at their lower backs bulged, most likely holding guns.

The two were quite professionally trained. Their gazes kept scanning the pedestrians passing along the street outside the building, watching for anything suspicious.

The moment Wang Liang’s figure appeared, one of them immediately looked over, his brows furrowing.

“Hm? Old Zhang, something’s not right over there,” the security guard reminded the man beside him in a low voice.

“Where?” The guard surnamed Zhang, who had been watching another direction, turned to look.

“There. That man in the black coat to my front left. There didn’t seem to be anyone there just now. I don’t remember seeing him walk over. It’s like he appeared out of thin air?”

“You sure? Did your eyes play tricks on you, or are you certain? Wait, he does seem a little off. Why has he been standing there the whole time? Suspicious behavior.”

“Should I go ask?”

“Go. Be polite at first. This is the city. Don’t make trouble lightly.”

“Mm.”

The two security guards grew alert. One of them hesitated for a moment, then took a few steps forward and called out to Wang Liang, who was standing some distance outside the building.

“Excuse me, who are you? Do you have an appointment here?”

Wang Liang did not answer the security guard. Instead, at that moment, he raised his head and looked toward the top of the building.

Sadako’s supernatural power had been triggered. Up there was a medium connected to him.

There were many places that contained his mediums. If he casually walked along the road for a while, plenty of mediums would appear and disappear.

Especially after he joined headquarters, his mediums had appeared in many cities elsewhere. That was because people were looking through his file.

So normally, he kept Sadako’s vision closed, unable to see those supernatural gray lines.

But the medium here was very special. There was a supernatural presence nearby that was intensifying, and the color of the supernatural gray line was deepening, giving him a peculiar feeling.

Most importantly, it was extremely close to him. That was what drew his, or rather Sadako’s, intense attention.

A cold, sinister aura surged around Wang Liang. He sent Sadako’s curse along the constantly darkening gray line in his field of vision, and at the same time saw the situation near that medium.

He discovered that the medium seemed to be inside a black vat, with black vapor steaming within.

The four edges of the photo that served as the medium were disappearing in an eerie way, as though they were being gnawed away. A special supernatural connection was being established in reverse toward him as the medium disappeared.

Sadako was an expert in mediums, especially since this attack was also related to his photo. It could be detected by Sadako.

Thus, Wang Liang could clearly sense that once that special connection was successfully established with him, something bad would likely happen to him.

But the feeling was not strong, which meant that the supernatural item was more strange than dangerous, and its level of threat was not particularly high.

“Heh. Interesting. You really know how to play.”

Although he felt he could withstand such an attack head-on, Wang Liang still gave a cold laugh, deepened and activated Sadako’s curse, transformed that medium into Sadako, and struck back first at the person closest to the medium.

“Hey, you over there. I’m asking you a question. What are you here for?”

After doing this, Wang Liang turned his gaze toward the security guard at the entrance, who was reaching toward his lower back as he walked toward him.

Wang Liang also strode over, a genial smile appearing on his face.

“Oh, nothing much. I’m here to raid the place.”

“What?”

The security guard had just arrived in front of him when he froze upon hearing those words. In the next second, he prepared to pull his hand out from behind his waist.

But Wang Liang had already crossed the last bit of distance like a ghost, instantly appearing before the guard and placing one hand on his shoulder, giving it a light pat.

“Well, well, carrying a gun, are you? Don’t you know firearms are controlled weapons? Carrying a gun illegally, and even trying to draw it on me. Hm. You’ve already earned yourself a path to death. Don’t be nervous. In a moment, you won’t be able to feel nervous anymore. Relax.”

After being patted by this mysterious man in a black coat, the security guard instantly felt a cold, sinister force seep into his body through the shoulder that had been touched.

His body immediately turned stiff, and at that moment, it actually slipped out of his control.

Terror appeared on the security guard’s face. He understood that anyone capable of doing this was indeed a ghost wielder. The power of a malicious ghost had already invaded his body.

His hand at his lower back had already gripped the specially made handgun intended for use against ghost wielders, but now, no matter what, he could not pull it out.

He wanted to open his mouth and tell his companion to attack, but his lips trembled and his throat could not make a sound. Instead, the corners of his mouth rose uncontrollably at that moment, revealing an eerie smile.

“Li Xiao, what’s going on? Back off first!” the security guard surnamed Zhang shouted. His hand also moved toward the pouch at his lower back, ready to draw his gun at any moment, even though the street lay right ahead.

Li Xiao turned his body stiffly. His eyes were filled with terror, yet an eerie smile hung at the corners of his mouth as he cast his gaze toward Old Zhang.

Their eyes met. Li Xiao’s hand uncontrollably pulled a golden handgun from behind his waist, raised it, and aimed it at the guard surnamed Zhang at the building entrance.

“You!”

Old Zhang’s expression changed. He could not figure out what was happening, but he still instinctively drew his handgun.

The next second.

Bang.

Li Xiao fired first. After Old Zhang was hit, he had no time to care what was going on. His finger also pulled the trigger.

And so, right at the entrance of the building, the two of them emptied their magazines into each other.

Pedestrians by the roadside who heard the gunshots looked over one after another, their eyes widening. Then they covered their ears, screamed, and ran, fleeing far from the area where the gunfight had broken out.

Some chose to call the police. Some secretly took photos. But all of them were immediately controlled and taken away by investigators rushing out from the surroundings.

When the gunshots stopped, the security guard Old Zhang spat blood and fell backward at the entrance of the building. He no longer moved, dying on the spot.

In front of Wang Liang, large patches of blood spread across the clothes of the security guard named Li Xiao.

His gaze was blank, his face ashen. He was already dead, yet his body still stood there stiffly, holding the handgun from which wisps of blue smoke were rising.
