Chapter 57: That's It?

6 min read1,447 words

“Who are you?!”

Fang Rui roared with his gun raised, his hands trembling slightly. Facing someone who had controlled a fierce ghost, he truly felt a chill in his heart.

He had gotten this gun from overseas the last time he delivered a letter. He had not delivered many letters, and he reacted strongly to anything involving fierce ghosts.

The fact that Lü Huizhen had survived the last delivery and even controlled a fierce ghost had already seemed unbelievable to him. Something as terrifying as a fierce ghost could actually be controlled by a person.

And this time, they had just arrived at the destination for their letter delivery when they ran into someone who provoked a strong reaction from Lü Huizhen, who had controlled a fierce ghost—a person who had likewise controlled a fierce ghost, and who seemed even more dangerous.

“Three.”

“Why are you stopping us?!”

“Two.”

“Damn it.”

Fang Rui did not know whether he should lower the gun in his hand. His gaze shifted toward Chang Feng and Lü Huizhen at the side.

But both of them looked as if they were facing a great enemy. Neither looked at him. From the looks of it, they were prepared to let him make the decision himself.

“One.”

Wang Liang’s expressionless countdown ended. Fang Rui’s eyes hardened, and his finger prepared to pull the trigger.

The watch Fang Rui wore was of good quality, its surface smooth. After he raised his hand, the watch’s polished face reflected Wang Liang’s figure.

And at that very moment, the watch on his right wrist suddenly gave off a wave of icy cold.

He only felt a bone-piercing chill rapidly spread through most of his right arm. In almost an instant, it caused the right hand with which he had been about to pull the trigger to lose all sensation.

The figure of Wang Liang reflected in the watch had now bizarrely arrived at the mirror-like surface, and from within it, a pale arm threaded with hideous black veins stretched out in a grotesquely disproportionate manner, seizing Fang Rui’s arm with a backhanded grip.

“Ah! A ghost!!”

Seeing this, terror filled Fang Rui’s eyes. He staggered backward repeatedly, flinging his right arm with all his might, but no matter what he did, he could not shake off that pale arm gripping him.

The weight on Fang Rui’s right hand increased. In his panic, his feet caught on each other, and he fell to the ground.

Then he could only watch helplessly as, after that pale arm stretched out, a female ghost with disheveled hair crawled out from the tiny frame of his watch in a completely irrational manner, pressing down above his body.

The cold emanating from the female ghost and the strange force pinning him down left him utterly unable to move, as if he were suffering from sleep paralysis in broad daylight.

No—not as if. He was truly being pressed down by a ghost!

Through the female ghost’s messy black hair hanging down, Fang Rui could faintly see a pair of vicious, resentful eyes staring fixedly at him, causing the fear in his heart to surge instantly to its peak.

“Fuck!”

Chang Feng, standing nearby, turned his head to look and immediately lost his composure, cursing loudly.

What had he just seen? A female ghost in tattered white clothing, with her hair hanging loose, was actually lying on top of Fang Rui!

Fang Rui shouted in panic, but he did not even have the strength to get up—or rather, it was useless even if he did.

Where had this thing come from?!

Chang Feng hurriedly pressed the seal in his hand against his left palm. His left palm was covered in square scars; some were nearly healed, while others had only recently scabbed over.

After he pressed that ancient-looking seal against his palm, he immediately pulled it away again. A large piece of skin and flesh was torn off his palm by the seal, and blood flowed out.

The skin, flesh, and blood torn off by the seal all merged into the bottom of the seal, climbing along its sides like blood vessels.

At the same time, the ancient-looking seal also began to emit a cold, sinister aura.

This was something Chang Feng had obtained during one of his letter deliveries. After tearing off and absorbing a person’s flesh and blood, if the seal was pressed against a fierce ghost, it could oppose the ghost and briefly repel it.

This thing had saved Chang Feng’s life more than once. This time, he assumed it would be the same.

But just as Chang Feng raised the seal stained with blood on its bottom and pressed it, as he had in the past, toward the shoulder of the white-clothed female ghost—

Smack.

The seal stamped onto the female ghost’s shoulder, but the female ghost did not budge in the slightest. She was not repelled.

Moreover, strands of foul-smelling black blood began to soak through the white clothing and seep out from the ghost’s shoulder. The black blood flowed down, almost causing the seal Chang Feng had pressed against her shoulder to slip.

“It actually didn’t work! Are you kidding me?!”

Chang Feng’s expression changed drastically. He no longer had the luxury of trying to save Fang Rui and hurriedly moved the seal away, taking a step back to avoid being touched by that bizarre black blood seeping out.

“Lü Huizhen!” Chang Feng shouted.

“I know.”

Seeing that Chang Feng’s tool was useless, Lü Huizhen knew she had to act.

She did not attack the female ghost lying on Fang Rui. There was no benefit in clashing head-on with a ghost.

She looked toward Wang Liang, who stood alone at the intersection ahead, both hands in his pockets.

One bulging blue vein after another unnaturally rose on Lü Huizhen’s forehead, spreading all around her eyes.

Her eyes had now become deathly white and hollow, the whites rolled outward, her eyeballs protruding very clearly. The upper half of her head had widened, swelling slightly as if it were about to burst open.

Bizarre. Terrifying.

“Hmph. I’m also someone who has controlled a fierce ghost. Don’t get too arrogant!”

Lü Huizhen’s beautiful face turned ferocious. Standing where she was, she stared at Wang Liang with those ghastly, bulging white eyes.

When Lü Huizhen looked over, Wang Liang frowned slightly, but soon relaxed again.

After waiting for a moment, he suddenly pulled his right hand out of his coat pocket. His right hand had become thin and pale. The illusory image of a woman’s palm overlapped with his hand for an instant, coldness coiling around it as he clenched at the air in front of him.

A supernatural suppression appeared. The air in front of Wang Liang rippled, and a human figure appeared out of thin air. He was holding her up by the throat, her face livid and her eyes protruding and white. It was none other than Lü Huizhen.

Meanwhile, the Lü Huizhen beside Chang Feng gradually faded into the air and vanished.

Wang Liang’s eyes shifted as he stared coldly at the woman gripped in his right hand.

Even though her face had already turned blue from his choking, and pleading showed in her eyes, the strength in his hand did not ease in the slightest. Instead, he tilted his head slightly.

“That’s it?”

His normal vision had just been deceived by some kind of supernatural force, making it impossible to tell where the real Lü Huizhen was.

But Lü Huizhen had still been staring at him normally, approaching him, his appearance reflected in her pupils.

Because of that, Sadako’s supernatural power had taken effect.

After Wang Liang used Sadako’s supernatural power, those supernatural gray threads appeared in his field of vision. Determining Lü Huizhen’s true location was simply too easy.

This kind of fierce ghost was completely countered by Sadako.

“Huizhen!” Chang Feng roared, but there was nothing he could do. He was still an ordinary person, merely someone with a supernatural object in his hand.

Fang Rui, lying on the ground, struggled with all his might, but he still could not get out from beneath the female ghost. At that moment, he shouted:

“Ah, Old Feng, run!”

“Damn it.”

Chang Feng’s expression wavered. Then, hardening his heart, he turned and ran backward.

But after only a few steps, he stopped again, despair appearing on his face.

A square-faced man was slowly walking over from the dirt road behind them. His expression was stern. After stopping, he blocked the way, clearly not allowing him to pass.

From the looks of it, he was in league with that terrifying man.
