Chapter 5 Bizarre Escape

“Bet it all!”

There was no time to run. There had never been a good chance to begin with.

Facing a ghost that possessed a ghost domain, without one of his own he could barely move an inch. At this moment, Wang Liang could only choose to try Sadako’s supernatural power once more.

This time, he reached out and grabbed one of the gray lines in his field of vision that stretched into the far distance. Even after he had been enveloped by the Knocking Ghost’s ghost domain, this gray line still existed, piercing through the heavy darkness before his eyes.

He did not know where this gray line extended to, but as though clutching at a life-saving straw, he frantically poured Sadako’s supernatural power into it, continuously releasing the curse.

After using Sadako’s ability earlier, Wang Liang already had a conjecture in his heart. That was why he wanted to take a gamble now—and could only take a gamble.

The Knocking Ghost took one step forward, and Zhou Zheng’s body nearby immediately rotted away by more than half on the spot.

Dry, tattered skin wrapped around his body. Large portions of flesh had decayed, and in some places even yellowed bone was exposed. Without a doubt, he was dead beyond dead.

The bulging belly that had still been writhing before also stopped moving. The belly shriveled, wrapping around a small lump of flesh that hung limply from the skeleton.

The walls decayed. The wooden door at the front of the classroom instantly rotted into a pile of wood shavings.

The cement floor was also weathering away nonstop, exposing the steel bars embedded within it, and this weathering was gradually spreading toward Wang Liang’s position.

He had been targeted by the Knocking Ghost.

On Wang Liang’s face, on his chest beneath his clothes, and on his legs, patches of livor mortis began to appear. The skin and flesh all over his body were rapidly rotting. His appearance looked rather hideous, and he was about to follow in Zhou Zheng’s footsteps.

But at this critical moment, the gray line stretching into the far distance, the one Wang Liang had been continuously exerting supernatural power upon, finally changed.

This time, he had urged his supernatural power into the gray line for longer than before. After it reached a certain point, Wang Liang only felt his vision flash.

The next moment, the supernatural power wrapped around his consciousness. As though being transmitted along a wire, it shot along that gray line toward an extremely distant place.

He had successfully escaped Seventh High.

……

Back where he had been, the Knocking Ghost came to a stop and did not continue walking forward.

Inside the classroom, the “Wang Liang” leaning against the lectern now had lifeless eyes. His body rotted rapidly at a visible speed, collapsed to the ground, and in the end decayed to the point that it no longer looked human at all.

The Knocking Ghost’s gray-white eyeballs shifted slightly as it looked at Wang Liang’s “corpse.” Dense darkness once again wrapped around it, and its figure vanished eerily from where it stood.

Before long, from the far reaches of this ghost domain came piercing screams and the renewed sound of knocking—“dong, dong dong.” Those screams soon came to an abrupt end.

After an unknown amount of time, movement once again came from the silent classroom’s front door.

A figure suddenly appeared there, took one step out, and arrived in the pitch-black corridor outside.

“What’s going on? Wasn’t that door the bathroom door? How did I come out from the classroom?”

Yang Jian stood outside the classroom, looking at the familiar corridor with disbelief in his eyes.

He had just hurried downstairs with his classmates, but after the Knocking Ghost’s ghost domain covered the area again, he discovered that no matter how many flights of stairs their group descended, they could never reach the first floor.

This was obviously abnormal. It was just like encountering the legendary ghost wall.

No, this was a ghost wall!

While everyone was growing anxious, he had accidentally been tricked by Fang Jing, who joined forces with several others to push him into a bathroom that had a ghost inside.

Yang Jian could not resist the shoving of several people by himself. In the end, he forcibly dragged two people in with him.

The two he dragged inside died at the hands of the ghost in that bathroom, while he, at the critical moment, relied on an audio file that recorded the Knocking Ghost’s knocking to narrowly escape that ghost’s claws.

He had pressed onward and, in an unknown space with a bone tree and a huge black shadow, controlled a scarlet ghost eye that had fallen to the ground, successfully escaping.

However, when Yang Jian pushed open the bathroom door and walked out, he discovered that he had not returned to the floor where the bathroom was located, but had instead returned to the entrance of the classroom.

It was utterly unbelievable. But since he had even run into ghosts now, a spatial dislocation was something he could barely accept.

“This is… Zhou Zheng!”

After Yang Jian arrived in the corridor, he immediately noticed the rotting corpse kneeling on the floor.

The corpse had almost completely decayed. Its clothes had turned to ash, and all that remained of its body was rotten skin stretched over bone. It no longer looked human at all, but the feature at its stomach was far too obvious.

While every other part had rotted, only the belly, though shriveled, was still barely intact.

Dry skin wrapped around a small lump of flesh, hanging at the position of the stomach. This immediately made Yang Jian think of Zhou Zheng’s huge belly that had not matched his physique.

“Zhou Zheng actually died. Then what about Teacher Wang?”

Yang Jian hurriedly looked left and right, but he did not see Teacher Wang’s corpse in the corridor.

He turned back to look inside the classroom, only to discover in horror that beside the lectern, there was likewise a corpse rotted from head to toe, its face and clothes completely unrecognizable. Yang Jian’s body stiffened.

He was not sure whether this was Teacher Wang’s corpse, or the corpse of a classmate who had died unexpectedly in the classroom at the time.

Right now, he could only hope that this was not Teacher Wang’s corpse. Otherwise, this ending would be far too tragic.

If even two people who possessed the supernatural power of malevolent ghosts and could directly confront that old-man ghost were dead, then this place was far too despairing.

Yang Jian prepared to leave, but he suddenly noticed something that looked like a walkie-talkie lying in front of Zhou Zheng’s corpse.

With the surroundings all in a state of decay, the exterior of this walkie-talkie actually looked completely intact.

Yang Jian stepped forward and picked up the walkie-talkie. He remembered that Zhou Zheng had used this thing to communicate with someone earlier. Perhaps later, he would have a chance to rely on this thing to contact the outside world and request rescue.

Hiss—

The sound of skin being torn suddenly rang out in the silent corridor, especially distinct in the stillness.

Yang Jian, who had just picked up the walkie-talkie and was about to straighten up, stopped moving. His body tensed, and his gaze shifted stiffly as he turned his head to look at Zhou Zheng’s stomach.

He saw an infant’s bluish-black arm tear open Zhou Zheng’s withered, wrinkled belly and stretch out from within.

The arm swiped, pushing the belly open, and a bluish-black infant’s head emerged from inside. There were no whites in its eyes at all. Its completely pitch-black eyes revealed an unsettling strangeness and evil, and at this moment it was curiously looking around like a newborn.

Yang Jian’s heart jolted, and cold sweat instantly broke out over him. At that moment, the ghost infant also shifted its gaze toward Yang Jian.

Run!

“Waaahhh!!”

An infant-like shriek echoed through the corridor, but Yang Jian did not look back. He turned and ran, using the ghost eye’s ability to see through the darkness as he quickly rushed downstairs.
