I was less nervous than I’d expected. I was definitely more jittery than when I’d run in the school election, but my voice didn’t shake, and there wasn’t anything particularly unusual about the interview, so toward the end I even had enough composure to smile as I answered.
— “……We’ll wrap up the interview here, then. The two of you can now move to your seats and prepare for the match! I’ll see you again shortly.”
The MC gathered even our microphones and stepped off to the side of the stage, and Gang Jegyeong and I turned to head toward the seats we’d been shown earlier.
Just then, Gang Jegyeong tapped me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear.
“Are you going straight home after the event?”

With the cameras rolling live and people behind us staring while they waited?

I wondered what he was scheming all of a sudden, and it seemed like he was trying to corner me on a live broadcast stage without giving me time to think or refuse. He was probably aiming for some halfhearted answer like, “Fine, just hurry up and go.” I might not be sure if it were anyone else, but with Retake, the odds were high.
I’m not falling for that. I lowered the hand I’d raised to flick him on the forehead, then pushed Gang Jegyeong’s back with just the right amount of force.

Then I went straight to my seat first. I thought I heard him grumbling behind me, but it was drowned out by the commentators’ voices, so I couldn’t make out what he said.
After sitting down, I picked up the headset placed beside me. Since I hadn’t put it on yet, the cheers from the audience and the commentators stalling for time by explaining our histories reached my ears clearly.

It was basic information that anyone who had played Dusk, especially anyone who often browsed the general board or community sites, would probably know. But there were certainly people who didn’t, and some might even be encountering the game for the first time through the live broadcast, so the commentators were explaining at length who Retake and I were.
