Chapter 3

Carefree Little Eunuch

4 min read849 words

“Chief, there’s an assassin passed out over here!” The young guard who had just been cursing under his breath pushed aside the grass, his face blooming with delight. Who would have thought he could pick up such an easy bargain and render a great service for nothing?

The other guards also came over. The man in the lead stroked his chin, sizing up Mo Bei, who lay on the ground playing dead, and said coldly, “Erzi, take him to the dungeon first.” Those above had said that any assassin caught was to be kept alive. For some reason, the imperial palace had been terribly lively of late; every night there were people sneaking in to assassinate someone, and every one of them had been tortured to death by His Majesty.

Those methods—tsk, tsk—were truly horrifying.

Shivering for no reason, the lead guard continued, “I’ll go to Fuhua Hall at once to report to His Majesty!” As soon as he finished speaking, he left with a dozen men, flicking his sleeves as he went, not noticing in the slightest the faintly curved lips of the woman in the night—enchanting enough to bewitch the heart.

“This kind of hard work always gets dumped on me!” the young guard muttered in complaint, his expression extremely ugly. One look was enough to tell he was someone used to being bullied.

Utterly unwilling, he reached out his arm. Who would have thought that before his fingertips even touched the fabric, the black figure on the ground would suddenly open both eyes—bright as snow-bright blades, cold as the wind. Her movements were too fast to see as she struck the side of his neck with a knife-hand chop. “You...” In his shock, the young guard had no time to say anything more before he passed out.

A wild wind howled in, lifting strands of the woman’s ink-black hair. Her veil slipped away, revealing a corner of her face. Though it could not be called supremely beautiful, there was an unyielding pride in her bones, carrying a trace of allure.

Boom! A bright peal of thunder rang through the sky, resounding across the entire palace.

It was raining!

“Quick, quick, quick! Move faster, all of you!” The captain of the guards, having received the imperial decree, hurried over from the dungeon. In the rain-soaked grass, aside from his subordinate who had been stripped bare, where was there any trace of the assassin?

It was yet another sleepless night.

……

The western side, Weiyang Palace.

At this moment, a slender figure was leisurely weaving through the winding corridors between the palace halls and pavilions of blue bricks and emerald tiles, completely unaffected by the uproar filling the palace. From time to time, she casually pocketed a few things, merely for the fun of it. Who could have imagined that she had long since pulled a switch, changing from a guard’s uniform into a eunuch’s outfit!

Perhaps after being washed by a night of torrential rain, the air carried a faint scent of dried grass, making one’s mood improve despite oneself.

Seeming to have grown tired from walking, Mo Bei leaned slantwise against a stone pillar. Her eyes, gleaming sharply like an eagle’s, observed everything around her through the gaps in the crowd.

This was not the Forbidden City!

After learning that she had transmigrated, her subconscious had assumed she was in an ancient Chinese imperial palace.

But after walking back and forth once, she still could not get her bearings, and at last realized something was wrong.

The architecture was different, the routes were not the same, and even the attire of the palace maids and guards was extremely strange.

Mo Bei tugged at the ornaments on her body made from rabbit bones, and several black lines slid down her forehead. Fine, transmigration was one thing, but did it have to be some melodramatic fictional world too?

Were they playing with her? Shaking her head, she decided the most important thing now was to find Nangua first!

Logically speaking, the two of them should have transmigrated together.

After all.

Mo Bei stared at the jade thumb ring on her index finger, then yanked a chain from her clothes and, in a few quick motions, made it into a necklace and put it around her fair neck. Glancing left and right, she tucked it into her inner clothing.

Perhaps if the two rings were reunited, they might be able to go back!

However, whether she went back or not did not really matter.

After all, a thief was a thief wherever they went.

Even if she had come to another world, she could still get by splendidly all the same!

Mo Bei curved her lips elegantly, stood up, and glanced at her business phone, whose battery was almost dead.

“I’m not worried about anything else. It’s just that guy Nangua—he might muddle-headedly sell himself off for the sake of food, and even help the other person count the money.”

Just as Mo Bei was muttering to herself over Nangua, a sharp reprimand suddenly came from not far away...
