Chapter 13

Chapter 13 Current State of CNCS

7 min read1,589 words

The smoke grenade model had become different…

Grenades could blow smoke grenades open…

All these playstyles made Yang Yu’s eyes light up.

At the same time, however, he understood something.

The techniques and experience this combo pack had given him might not be products of the current era. Take this technique of chaining explosions through smoke to seize timing—it was indeed quite dazzling, but at his current stage, he couldn’t use it.

Because at this stage, grenades simply didn’t have that function.

In other words, in the near future, was CSGO really going to become CS2?

The thought left Yang Yu both expectant and uneasy.

He looked forward to it because if CSGO became CS2, would there be new changes?

CSGO was already this fun. Wouldn’t CS2 take off completely?

What made him uneasy was that he didn’t have that much time left to grow. His goal was to make his debut in CSGO. Even if he didn’t aim to become a player on the level of s1mple or ZywOo, he still had to leave his mark on CSGO’s professional history.

The community had always joked about Valve with the saying, “Operation tomorrow, Source 2 the day after.”

But this time, knowing they were serious, Yang Yu couldn’t help feeling a sense of urgency.

Still, his attention was soon drawn to the technique footage that followed.

The second clip came from Nuke.

On the map Nuke, in order to contest outside control, some Terrorists would crouch-walk past the outside silos. If they were allowed to move into the head-glitch position by the silos, it wouldn’t be that easy for an AWP to deal with them.

Yang Yu then saw a very ingenious countermeasure.

In the footage, two CTs went straight to the corner outside Big Garage and used a double boost to see the entirety of the outside silos. The AWP easily picked the opponent off.

(Double boost at this position)

“Hiss—” The degree to which this technique countered the opponent made Yang Yu suck in a breath of cold air.

Immediately after, the perspective shifted to Mirage, where Yang Yu saw a set of utility for a frontal execute.

At the current stage, Mirage A-site executes basically consisted of three smokes: stairs, connector, and CT spawn.

But in the video, by using CS2’s miraculous utility mechanics, they threw a smoke grenade that bloomed on top of triple box. Not only did it completely block the vision from triple, it also blocked the CT spawn sightline toward A1.

(The smoke grenade blooming at this position)

Yang Yu instantly fell into thought. Although the smoke grenade mechanics in CSGO were different at the current stage, some ideas behind utility usage were the same.

In matchmaking or in certain tactics, it seemed he could also make the CT smoke bloom around the triple box area, directly obscuring two of the opponent’s key positions.

Yang Yu recorded this technique. It was a very useful piece of utility. If he really entered the professional scene later, perhaps it could become a trump card.

The next technique was still on Mirage. It was a rather special position.

When playing solo B, one could crouch on the right side of the couch cover. Whether the opponents exploded out from B apartments with utility or dry-peeked to speed up, they wouldn’t be able to clear this position immediately. Even if they came from short B, they would only be able to see a small portion of the body.

(The position where the fly head is)

“This position is way too shady!” Yang Yu expressed that he had learned something.

In the footage that followed, the system successively showed him small tricks on several other maps. After watching the entire combo pack, Yang Yu truly felt that he had learned a great deal.

But he also had quite a few thoughts.

“Has CS2 already gotten this sweaty?”

At the current stage of CSGO professional matches, although there were some targeted playstyles, compared to what he had just seen in the video, those were practically child’s play.

Judging from the CS2 footage he had just seen, by the CS2 stage, this group of people had all become kings of sweat. Every detail had been maxed out, each one more “sunny” than the last.

The moment he saw these techniques, Yang Yu even felt for an instant that there was no need to go that far. After all, many things could simply be flattened with raw aim.

People were always afraid of difficulty.

But afterward, Yang Yu put himself into the roles within those techniques. If he were the background character in those clips, he really might not even be able to fire his gun.

So, he silently made a decision in his heart.

Rather than become one of those background characters, he might as well start sweating first and be the first to reap the benefits.

It was also just right for him to let these already extremely sweaty professional players see what a true king of sweat looked like!

We CSGO players all know that information gathered in advance absolutely has to be put to use.

If Yang Yu knew which sticker was going to rise in price next, he would absolutely let CNCS know what it meant to get fired up!

The moment he imagined himself using these “sunny” techniques to smash apart the people in the professional scene, Yang Yu couldn’t help laughing out loud.

Xu Kun, who was practicing his aim, turned to look and couldn’t help shaking his head. “It’s over. Getting an S rank has made the kid stupid with joy.”

Yang Yu, hearing this, awkwardly reined in his smile and said, “When discussing CSGO, you have to add the rank!”

“Good grief, now you’re starting with cringe jokes,” Xu Kun roasted.

“I’ll carry you for two games.”

“You know, Tudou, we’ve always been brothers. We once defeated many opponents together in C+…”

“You’re doing LeBron-speak too?”

Just then, Huang Zicheng, who was beside them, said, “Feels like the domestic teams this year are all around the same level. There isn’t any obvious gap when they play.”

In their entire dorm, Huang Zicheng had been the one who initially got them into CSGO. He was an old player, and had already lost much of his desire for ranking up. Instead, he paid particular attention to these professional teams.

Mo Han said, “Although people always joke about glorious defeats, TyLoo should still have the best hope today, right? I feel like Danking’s AWP is pretty good.”

In Mo Han’s mind flashed the double kill on Vertigo. “The Stockholm Major really was a bit of a pity. Back then, TyLoo really had a chance to get stickers.”

Huang Zicheng shook his head. “I always feel like TyLoo is missing a bit of spirit. I’m not that hopeful about TyLoo anymore. On the other hand, LVG and RA have both been playing pretty well these past few months.”

At this point, Huang Zicheng paused. “RA has actually been playing quite well recently. They have a bit of a European team’s style now. It’s just that 259 is clinging to the IGL position and won’t leave. It really is a bit disgusting…”

“259 should be the best IGL in the country right now, right?” Yang Yu retorted. In his impression, the only domestic IGL who could be considered presentable was 259. He didn’t even know who TyLoo’s IGL was.

As an old-season viewer, Huang Zicheng was the resident know-it-all in this regard. “There’s nothing wrong with 259’s calling. The problem is that his frontal firepower is too poor. When he plays, he’s no different from the chickens on the map. His frequent key-position deaths are too fatal.”

“If his firepower could improve a little, then RA would have a real chance of getting stickers at the next Major.”

CNCS had suffered from a lack of stickers for far too long. Even these spectators hoped to see the domestic professional players make their names on the stage, rather than suffer one “glorious defeat” after another.

After chatting for a while about the state of CNCS, everyone’s mood wasn’t very good, so they each went off to do their own things.

Yang Yu, too, began watching ropz’s Inferno demo, carefully studying all sorts of details from ropz.

He had already obtained all of ropz’s understanding of the map Inferno. Watching this demo again now was equivalent to reviewing it, and he gained some new understanding of ropz’s playstyle and various positions as well.

Reviewing the old to learn the new was still very important.

After he finished watching one of ropz’s Inferno demos, the system appeared before his eyes once more.

[Advanced points +119…]

Yang Yu also felt the joy of a bountiful harvest.

[First advance task completed. Congratulations, Host, for adapting to “ropz’s Inferno map understanding.” Would you like to activate a challenge task for this ability?]

So, every time he advanced a new ability, he could activate a challenge task to earn rewards?

The thought flashed through Yang Yu’s mind, and he calmly replied, “Activate it.”

[Sunny and Cheerful Big Boy: Kill opponents from behind 911 times on Inferno.]

[Task reward: Unknown…]

PS: The previous text has been slightly revised. The advance task regarding ropz has been changed to 91 POVs, and the current timeline the protagonist is in has been changed from March 2023 to December 2022. This is for the needs of the later plot, so I made a slight adjustment. Sorry, sorry.
