Chapter 9 Desert Town

Several seconds later, the white light gradually faded, and everyone’s vision slowly returned.

A wave of heat struck them head-on. Long Ming could not help narrowing his eyes as he looked around.

Countless crumbling walls and ruins entered his sight.

Most of these ruins were made of mixed earth and stone, eroded beyond recognition by wind and sand. Yellow sand covered the ground everywhere, though a few dilapidated structures still retained their main frames.

“Whoa, what kind of place is this?”

“No idea. It feels really hot!”

“Is this a desert?”

“Fuck, we can’t be that unlucky, right? They threw us into a desert?”

“What do we do next?”

“No idea!”

Many players stared around in utter bewilderment.

Long Ming lowered his head and looked at his wristband to see if there were any prompts.

As a result, he discovered that the mission log had been updated.

Mission: Survive!

Requirement: Players must survive in the world of Wabijia for more than 12 hours and evacuate safely.

Reward: 500 one-dimensional coins

Remark: Only the living are qualified to talk about anything.

Tip: Since you are using a gaming helmet, the maximum game time is 24 hours. If you exceed the limit, you will automatically be judged dead and forcibly logged out.

After Long Ming finished reading the mission, he noticed that the wristband interface had also updated with a map.

He immediately opened the map with anticipation, only to find that the map interface was almost entirely black. Only the area where he currently stood was displayed.

If he guessed correctly, the map had to be explored and unlocked by himself.

However, on the completely black map, green dots were displayed one after another, and these green dots were the evacuation points.

There were quite a number of evacuation points, and several of them were not very far from his current position. From the looks of it, evacuation would not be especially difficult.

Long Ming then closed the wristband interface and lifted his head to gaze across the ruins where he stood.

From the distribution of the remaining architectural wreckage, he could vaguely make out that this had once been the ruins of a town. It was just too badly damaged; many houses had only one or two earth-and-stone walls left.

Long Ming immediately began exploring forward. As he walked, he carefully examined the ruined buildings around him to see whether he could find anything of value.

Unfortunately, after walking all the way, aside from gravel, there was still only gravel. He could barely see anything of value.

Even so, Long Ming patiently continued searching.

More than ten minutes later, Long Ming finally found the remains of a relatively intact house. Although only three walls remained and the roof had collapsed.

He carefully walked inside and saw scattered stones and gravel all over the place.

At first glance, there seemed to be nothing of value.

But at that moment, Long Ming keenly noticed that something seemed to be buried near the corner of the wall.

He walked over and crouched down, gently brushing away the surface gravel. A section of metal chain was revealed.

Long Ming tried pulling on it, and immediately drew out a thin iron chain three meters long.

Long Ming raised his wristband and scanned it. Information appeared on the screen.

Metal Chain

Grade: White.

Material: Iron.

Value: Extremely low.

Weight: 3 kg.

Long Ming looked at the information displayed on the wristband. After hesitating for a moment, he ultimately decided to put it into his backpack.

Although its value was very low, no matter what, it was still better than returning empty-handed.

However, after the metal chain was placed into the backpack, Long Ming clearly felt the backpack grow heavier. It was still within a bearable range, though, so the effect was not especially obvious.

Long Ming looked around once, and after confirming that he had not missed anything, he left, preparing to search other ruined buildings.

In the end, he discovered that there were players searching everywhere outside. He hurriedly quickened his pace and continued searching ahead.

Half an hour later, Long Ming arrived empty-handed at the central area of the ruins. Many players were gathered here in groups, talking among themselves.

“Did you find anything valuable?”

“Find my ass. There’s nothing here except sand.”

“Haah, I didn’t find anything either.”

At this moment, among the crowd, a fair-skinned woman with twin ponytails kept fanning her cheeks with her hand while incessantly complaining.

“It’s so hot. I really can’t take it.”

Unfortunately, even the air here was hot, so the wind she fanned out was naturally hot as well. It had no effect at all.

So she reached out and unbuttoned her collar, revealing a large expanse of snow-white skin.

The players around her were instantly drawn by her actions and looked over one after another. Quite a few people could not help swallowing.

At this moment, a rather sleazy-looking man with shifty eyes revealed a wicked smile and said to a man beside him who wore a black vest and had a faint scar on his forehead,

“Cao Heng, what do you think of that chick?”

“Tender!”

“This world is so realistic. I wonder what it’d feel like to play with her.”

“Zheng Bin, you mean?”

“Heh heh!”

Zheng Bin gave Cao Heng a wicked grin.

Cao Heng immediately revealed a smile of understanding as well.

The two of them tacitly walked up to the woman and spoke with smiles.

“Miss, I see you’re playing alone. How about teaming up with us?”

When Lin Yue saw how sleazy Cao Heng and the other man looked, their eyes constantly fixed on her chest, she immediately understood that they had bad intentions and refused.

“No need!”

“Don’t be shy. We’ll take care of you.”

Cao Heng shamelessly edged closer to the woman.

Lin Yue instinctively and uneasily retreated several steps, asking somewhat nervously,

“What are you trying to do?”

“Nothing. We just want to team up and play with you.”

Zheng Bin did not care in the slightest whether she was willing or not. With a wicked smile, he reached his hand toward the woman.

When the surrounding players saw this scene, although quite a few showed expressions of disgust, no one stepped forward to stop them.

Long Ming merely glanced over once before shifting his gaze to observe the surroundings and the crowd.

After all, others had come in for entertainment, but he had come in to find a way to survive.

At this moment, a shout rang out.

“Stop!”

Zheng Bin’s hand immediately froze. Somewhat irritated, he turned his head to look.

A young man wearing a white shirt, tall in stature, handsome in appearance, with sharp eyes, was walking over.

Zheng Bin looked at the man and warned him in an unfriendly tone.

“Kid, this has nothing to do with you. Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.”

“I just can’t stand it. I like meddling. What about it?”

This young man was not afraid at all.

Lin Yue hurriedly hid behind the young man.

Zheng Bin and Cao Heng immediately felt utterly humiliated. Just as they were about to make trouble, four players walked over and asked,

“Qin Yan, what’s going on?”

“Nothing. Just two punks from the City of Sin.”

Qin Yan twisted his neck, looking as though he was ready to fight.

“Haha, we were just joking. Let’s go.”

Seeing that Qin Yan also had companions, Zheng Bin immediately changed his expression and backed down outright, leaving with Cao Heng.

Seeing the two of them leave, Qin Yan turned to Lin Yue and said,

“It’s fine now.”

“Thank you.”

Lin Yue gazed at the tall and handsome Qin Yan, her cheeks slightly flushed as she thanked him gratefully.

At this moment, when the other players saw that there was no more excitement to watch, they continued their discussions.

“What kind of shitty game is this? We searched for ages and didn’t find a damn thing.”

“Exactly. And it’s insanely hot!”

“I’m already getting a little thirsty.”

“Did we come here to play a game, or to suffer for real?”

“Then what should we do next?”

“Who the hell knows. We probably have to leave this place and search somewhere else.”

“Will it be dangerous outside?”

“Definitely.”

“Then what do we do? Can anyone carry me?”

Listening to everyone’s complaints, Long Ming could roughly judge that there was nothing of value here. He immediately turned and left.
