Chapter 3: Let's See Whose Shout Is Louder

6 min read1,319 words

Wen Ling stood in the doorway, raising her hand to wave at the two of them. “Hi, long time no see.”

Upon hearing that familiar voice, Zhou Yinhe abruptly straightened up and stared at the person standing in the doorway in disbelief.

Qi Zhan had always had a violent temper. He stood up and stormed toward the door, only to be stopped by Jiang Jibai.

“Why are you stopping me? I’ve never hit a woman before, but today I’ll make an exception!”

“Can’t you look at Little Fifth’s expression? Does he really look like he’s over her? And you’re still preparing to beat up Wen Ling—aren’t you afraid Little Fifth will turn against you?” Jiang Jibai persuaded, lifting his chin toward Zhou Yinhe to motion for Qi Zhan to look at him.

Qi Zhan took one look and rolled his eyes so hard they nearly reached the heavens. He couldn’t bear to watch.

Wen Ling didn’t mind the two’s dissatisfaction with her. She stretched out a slender finger, pointing at the man still on the sofa, and said, “I’m looking for him.”

Zhou Yinhe’s brows were tightly furrowed. He turned his face away and snapped in a severe voice, “What are you here for?”

Wen Ling walked over, traversing the short distance with enchanting grace. She bypassed Qi Zhan, who was still glaring at her fiercely, and sat down beside Zhou Yinhe, saying in a coquettish voice, “I just got back. I heard this place is fun, and knowing you were here, I came over to say hello. I’m not disturbing you, am I?”

Zhou Yinhe pulled over the pretty girl standing very close by and wrapped his arm around her in front of him. The corners of his eyes lifted slightly as he looked at Wen Ling. “You are disturbing me.”

Wen Ling blinked, her brows and eyes curving in a smile. “It’s fine. I can keep you company together with her. I don’t mind.”

Zhou Yinhe stood up and looked down at Wen Ling in disbelief. “Say that again?”

Wen Ling crossed her legs, propped her chin up with one hand, and looked straight at him, repeating without a change in expression, “I said, I can keep you company together with her.”

Zhou Yinhe suddenly let out a derisive laugh. He pulled the pretty girl up and placed his hand on her waist, saying sarcastically, “I wouldn’t dare let Miss Wen keep me company. I have Yanyan. That’s enough for me.”

Yanyan: My name is Ningning…

But she didn’t dare say it. She could also tell that Zhou Yinhe was deliberately trying to anger this bright, bold girl before him. It was just that she had finally managed to get close to this precious young master of the Zhou family, so she leaned in willingly, wrapped her arms around Zhou Yinhe’s waist, and said softly, “Fifth Young Master, let’s go. Yanyan has already booked a room at the hotel next door.”

Zhou Yinhe glanced at Wen Ling, then left with his arm around Yanyan.

Wen Ling suppressed the sourness welling up in her heart. How could she not know that Zhou Yinhe was deliberately trying to anger her? Even if Zhou Yinhe really wanted to find someone, he wouldn’t just randomly pull a girl over. But she still couldn’t control the pain in her heart.

Watching the two leave, Qi Zhan mocked, “Did you really think you’re the only one he wants? Without you, there’s still Ruan Miaomiao, and countless other girls waiting in line. He forgot about you long ago.”

Wen Ling cast a sidelong glance at him. When she stood up, she suddenly laughed, delivering a soft thrust of the knife: “Has Young Master Qi caught Zhao Xingtang yet?”

“You—!” Qi Zhan was indeed angered by her. He was about to step forward but was stopped by Jiang Jibai again.

Jiang Jibai warned Wen Ling in a cold voice, “Miss Wen, I don’t know what you intend to do coming back this time, but stay away from Little Fifth. Otherwise, neither the Zhou family nor we will let you off.”

Wen Ling tugged at the corner of her lips, turned around, and chased after Zhou Yinhe, leaving behind Qi Zhan—who looked ready to explode with anger—and Jiang Jibai, who watched her like a venomous snake.

Zhou Yinhe left the bar with his arm around Yanyan. He had just wanted to let go but was afraid Wen Ling would catch up, so he had no choice but to keep his hand on Yanyan’s waist.

Yanyan smiled especially unrestrainedly. When women from the same line of work looked over, she responded with a smug smile.

Sure enough, Wen Ling quickly caught up and reached out to block Zhou Yinhe’s path.

“Zhou Yinhe! You can’t do this with someone else just to anger me!”

Zhou Yinhe had already calmed his frantic heartbeat. He hooked his lips into a smile as he looked at her.

“Whatever I want to do with others isn’t something Miss Wen needs to concern herself with.”

Wen Ling pressed her lips together, stepped forward, and softened her tone. “Zhou Yinhe, can we talk properly, alright?”

Zhou Yinhe refused outright: “I have nothing to talk to you about. Wen Ling, I told you back then—after we broke up, we wouldn’t get back together. You were the one who said you wouldn’t regret it.”

Wen Ling inwardly cursed the author, but on the surface, she looked aggrieved. “I had my reasons back then. It’s just that I couldn’t tell you.”

Zhou Yinhe only took it as her making excuses and left with his arm around Yanyan.

Wen Ling caught up again, standing behind him and saying stubbornly, “Zhou Yinhe, if you dare go to a hotel with her today, I’ll grab a man off the street and go too! I’ll book the room right next to yours. Let’s see who screams louder!”

Hearing this, Zhou Yinhe’s footsteps paused slightly. He tossed out a light remark: “Suit yourself.”

Wen Ling pouted, her eye rims reddening. She watched his retreating figure aggrievedly. Her bodyguard quickly stepped forward to comfort her: “Miss, don’t be sad. He’s definitely deliberately trying to anger you.”

“You—you go follow him. Whichever hotel he wants to go to, you book up all the rooms in that hotel!”

The bodyguard she designated wanted to voice a question: What if the fifth young master of the Zhou family takes the woman home? Can I still buy his house?

But seeing his young lady’s pitiful expression, he could only agree repeatedly, “Alright, alright, alright. I’m going now.”

The others looked at him with gazes full of sympathy. He glared at them and ran off after Zhou Yinhe.

Zhou Yinhe dragged Yanyan further away. He turned back wanting to see Wen Ling’s figure, but instead saw the bodyguard who had just been beside Wen Ling.

His face turned cold. He stood before the bodyguard and warned, “Scram.”

The bodyguard lowered his eyes and didn’t move an inch. Zhou Yinhe was angered into laughter. He put his hands on his hips and paced a few steps.

His own bodyguards caught up at the right time. Seeing their fifth young master furious beyond measure, they understood without needing instructions and hurriedly dragged Wen Ling’s bodyguard away.

As they walked, they offered advice in low voices: “Go back, or stay outside for the night. Tomorrow, just brush off your young lady however you want.”

Seeing no one around, Yanyan stepped forward and boldly tried to hook her arm through Zhou Yinhe’s, only to be fiercely shaken off by him.

“What are you doing?” His tone was extremely unfriendly.

Yanyan said innocently, “Fifth Young Master, didn’t you bring me out? I thought you wanted to…”

Zhou Yinhe looked at her with disgust. Finally, he took out his phone from his pocket. “Scan the code, take the money, and get out of here.”
